2012 European Athletics Championships
The 2012 European Athletics Championships were held in Helsinki, Finland between 27 June and 1 July 2012. This edition marks the beginning of a new two-year cycle of the European Athletics Championships which were previously held every four years. The decision to grant the games for Helsinki was made by the European Athletics Congress on 9 November 2009. Ercüment Olgundeniz (born July 7, 1976) is a Turkish track and field athlete competing in the discus and occasionally shot put. The tall athlete at is a member of Enkaspor, where he is coached by Teodoru Agachi. He took part at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, Greece. With his throw of 58.17 m, Olgundeniz ranked 28th and could not qualify for the finals. In 2005, he participated at the Mediterranean Games in AlmerÃa, and won the bronze medal with his performance of 59.16 m. Lawrence Okoye (born 6 October 1991) is a British track and field athlete and former American football defensive tackle. He is the British record holder in the discus event. Okoye became the first ever British athlete to win a medal in Discus at a European Championships during Munich 2022. He has also played rugby union. Personal life Born in Croydon in South London to Nigerian parents, Okoye was educated at St Mary's Roman Catholic Junior School, a voluntary aided Roman Catholic state primary school in Croydon, followed by Whitgift School, an independent school for boys, also in Croydon.
