2012 European Athletics Championships
The 2012 European Athletics Championships were held in Helsinki, Finland between 27 June and 1 July 2012. This edition marks the beginning of a new two-year cycle of the European Athletics Championships which were previously held every four years. The decision to grant the games for Helsinki was made by the European Athletics Congress on 9 November 2009. Konstantinos Kenteris
Konstantinos "Kostas" Kenteris, also spelled as Konstadinos "Costas" Kederis ( ; born July 11, 1973) is a Greek former athlete. He won gold medals in the 200 metres at the 2000 Summer Olympics, the 2001 World Championships in Athletics and the 2002 European Championships in Athletics, making him the only European sprinter (along with Linford Christie) to win the gold medal in all three major competitions and the only European World Champion in the 200 metres races. Additionally, he has won two gold, three silver and two bronze medals in the European Cup, as well as three gold medals in the 200 metres at the Athens Grand Prix Tsiklitiria. He is also a 14-time golden medalist at the Greek Athletics Championships and a five-time golden medalist at the Greek Indoor Athletics Championships. Bruno Hortelano
Bruno Dominix Hortelano Roig (born 18 September 1991) is a Spanish former athlete competing in sprinting events. Early life and career Hortelano was born to Spanish parents in Wollongong, Australia where his father was completing a PhD. After the family moved to Canada in 1992, Hortelano was raised in Burlington, Ontario. His sport interests varied from taekwondo, soccer and, in high school, American football. He was a member of the Burlington Track Club and also competed at high school venues initially contesting the 100 m and later the 110 m hurdles. From 2005 to 2009 he attended Assumption Catholic Secondary School. He was twice named the most valuable sprinter. Hortelano was a finalist in the 100 m at 10.76 in the 2009 OFSSA Provincial Championships, Toronto. Jonathan Borlée (; born 22 February 1988) is a former Belgian sprinter, who specializes in the 400 metres. He is a member of the Borlée family. He qualified for the finals of the 400 metres at the 2012 Summer Olympics. He was a semi-finalist at the 2008 Summer Olympics and winner at the 2009 NCAA Championships. Borlée also takes part in the Belgian 4 × 400 m relay team. The team won gold at the 2012, 2016 and 2018 European Championships, and the 2015 European Indoor Championships. A single-elimination knockout, or sudden-death tournament is a type of elimination tournament where the loser of a match-up is immediately eliminated from the tournament.
