2012 Big East Conference Football Season
The 2012 Big East football season was the 22nd NCAA Division I FBS football season of the conference that was known as the Big East Conference from its formation in 1979 until July 2013, and ultimately proved to be the last for the conference under the "Big East" name, as well as the last with a full round-robin schedule for conference play. The conference consisted of eight football members: Cincinnati, Connecticut, Louisville, Pittsburgh, Rutgers, South Florida, Syracuse and Temple. In February 2012, the Big East settled a lawsuit with West Virginia University that allowed them to move to the Big 12 Conference effective July 1, 2012. Conference members began regular-season play on August 30 when Temple hosted Villanova; conference play started September 6 when Cincinnati hosted Pittsburgh. 2012 Temple Owls Football Team
The 2012 Temple Owls football team represented Temple University in the 2012 NCAA Division I FBS football season. The Owls were led by second-year head coach Steve Addazio and played their home games at Lincoln Financial Field. This season marked the Owls' first season as members of the Big East Conference since they were forced out of the conference following the 2004 season. East Hartford is a town in Hartford County, Connecticut, United States. The population was 51,045 at the 2020 census. Pratt & Whitney Stadium at Rentschler Field is a stadium in East Hartford, Connecticut. 2012 UMass Minutemen Football Team
The 2012 UMass Minutemen football team represented the University of Massachusetts Amherst in the 2012 NCAA Division I FBS football season as a member of the Mid-American Conference. The team was coached by Charley Molnar and played its home games at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts. The 2012 season was the team's first as a member of the MAC, as they continued their transition to Football Bowl Subdivision, NCAA Division I FBS play. Because of this, they were ineligible to participate in the conference championship. However, according to an August 2, 2012 ruling by the NCAA UMass would have been eligible to participate in a bowl game if they achieved at least 6 wins, and there were not enough spots to fill all bowl games. Greg Schiano
Gregory Edward Schiano (born June 1, 1966) is an American football coach. He is currently the head football coach at Rutgers University, a position he held from 2001 to 2011 and resumed before the 2020 season. Schiano has the most wins in program history as head football coach of the Rutgers Scarlet Knights football team. He also served as the head coach for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers of the National Football League (NFL) from 2012 to 2013. Kyle J. Flood (born January 20, 1971) is an American football coach and former player. He is currently the offensive coordinator and offensive line coach for the Texas Longhorns football team. He is also the former head football coach of the Rutgers Scarlet Knights. Flood was named the 29th head football coach of the Rutgers Scarlet Knights football team after Greg Schiano accepted the National Football League head coaching position for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Michael Todd Graham (born December 5, 1964) is an American college football coach and former player who serves as an offensive analyst for TCU. He was most recently the head football coach at the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa. Paul Joseph Chryst (born November 17, 1965) is an American football coach. He served as the head football coach at the University of Pittsburgh from 2012 to 2014 and the University of Wisconsin—Madison from 2015 to 2022. Chryst had previously been the offensive coordinator at Wisconsin from 2005 through 2011. The 2012 Discover Orange Bowl was a postseason college football bowl game on Wednesday, January 4, 2012, at Sun Life Stadium, now known as Hard Rock Stadium, in Miami Gardens, Florida.
