2011–12 American Eagles Men's Basketball Team
The 2011–12 American Eagles men's basketball team represented American University during the 2011–12 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The Eagles, led by 12th year head coach Jeff Jones, played their home games at Bender Arena and are members of the Patriot League. They finished the season 20–12, 10–4 in Patriot League play to finish in third place. They lost in the semifinals of the Patriot League Basketball tournament to Lehigh. They were invited to the 2012 CollegeInsider.com Tournament where they lost in the first round to Buffalo. Jeff Jones (basketball)
Jeffrey Allen Jones (born June 29, 1960) is an American former college basketball player and coach. He was a four-year starter for the Virginia Cavaliers, helping his team to win an NIT title and reach the NCAA Final Four. He became an assistant coach and eventually the head coach at his ''alma mater'', with a tenure of eight years; he then coached the American Eagles for thirteen years; and the Old Dominion Monarchs for eleven years. In total, Jones was a head coach for thirty-two years, amassing a overall record and a winning record with each of his three programs, reaching the NCAA Tournament at each stop—including an Elite Eight run with Virginia in 1995. Robins Center
The Robins Center is a 7,201-seat multi-purpose arena in Richmond, Virginia. Opened in 1972, the arena is home to the University of Richmond Spiders basketball. It hosted the ECAC South (now known as the Colonial Athletic Association) men's basketball tournament in 1983. It is named for E. Claiborne Robins Sr, class of 1931, who, along with his family, have been leading benefactors for the school. The opening of the Robins Center returning Spider basketball to an on-campus facility for the first time since the mid-1940s when it outgrew Millhiser Gymnasium. Charles Phillip Hinkle (born March 11, 1988) is an American professional basketball player who plays for Franca Basquetebol Clube of the Novo Basquete Brasil. Born in the Los Angeles area, he played high school basketball at Los Alamitos High School before moving to Hebron Academy. He then joined Vanderbilt University to play for the Commodores and redshirted his freshman season. After receiving limited playing time, he transferred to the American Eagles for his final two years and was one of the top NCAA Division I scorers as a senior.
