2011 World Championships In Athletics – Men's Decathlon
The Men's decathlon at the 2011 World Championships in Athletics was held at the Daegu Stadium on August 27 and 28. Ashton Eaton started off strongly, taking a 22-point advantage in the 100m over American teammate Trey Hardee, then adding three more points in the long jump. Oleksiy Kasyanov placed himself in third. Defending champion Hardee pulled back that advantage to take a 6-point lead after the shot put. Aleksey Drozdov blew past the field with a 2.14 high jump, but cumulatively it was only a short lived 2-point lead. And the faster Eaton took the 400m and a 53-point lead over Hardee at the end of Day 1. The second day was more of the same, Eaton's speed over the 110 hurdles extended his lead to 69 points over Hardee, but considering how much faster Eaton normally is vs Hardee, he didn't extend the lead enough. Larbi Bouraada
Larbi Bourrada (called sometimes ''Larbi Bouraâda'' or ''Larbi Bouraada''; ; born May 10, 1988, in Rouiba) is an Algerian decathlon athlete. He is a six-time African champion in decathlon (2008, 2010, 2014, 2018, 2022, 2024) and the African record holder in the event. He has also competed in the pole vault, winning the All-Africa Games title in 2011 and two silver medals at the African Championships. In 2012 his doping sample at a competition came back positive for the banned steroid Stanozolol, and he was given a two-year ban from athletics. Tito Steiner (1 May 1952 – 2 May 2024) was a Paraguayan-Argentine decathlete who represented Argentina in the 1970s and 1980s. He is the current Argentine record holder in the event. Career Steiner set a national record in 1981, collecting 8,279 points at a meet in Baton Rouge, United States (1981-06-03). He bested this with a score of 8,291 points, set on 23 June 1983, which is still the national record. Steiner won the silver medal at the 1979 Pan American Games in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Steiner finished fourth at the 1975 Pan American Games and 22nd at the Montreal 1976 Summer Olympics. Daniel Dion O'Brien (born July 18, 1966) is an American former decathlete and Olympic gold medalist. He won the Olympic title in 1996, three consecutive world championships (1991, 1993, 1995), and set the world record in 1992. Early life O'Brien was born in Portland, Oregon in 1966. He is of African American and Finnish heritage, and grew up as an adopted child in an Irish-American family in Klamath Falls. He attended Henley High School graduating in 1984. At the Oregon High School State Championships he led his team to a team runner-up finish with O'Brien scoring all points.
