The 2010–11 season was the 123rd season of competitive association football and the 4th consecutive season in League One played by Walsall Football Club, a professional association football club based in Walsall, West Midlands, England. The team reached the second round of the FA Cup, losing to Torquay United. There was a change of manager in January. Season summary Having finished 10th in the previous season, Walsall started the season poorly, losing six of their first eight league games. On 4 January 2011, manager Chris Hutchins was sacked with the club bottom of the league and having recorded just 5 league wins. On 21 January 2011, Dean Smith was appointed as manager after a successful spell as caretaker manager following the dismissal of Chris Hutchins. Walsall (, or ; locally ) is a market town and administrative centre of the Metropolitan Borough of Walsall, in the West Midlands, England. Historically part of Staffordshire, it is located north-west of Birmingham, east of Wolverhampton and south-west of Lichfield. Walsall was transferred from Staffordshire to the newly created West Midlands county in 1974. At the 2011 census, the town's built-up area had a population of 67,594, with the wider borough having a population of 269,323. Aaron Lescott
Aaron Anthony Lescott (born 2 December 1978) is an English former professional footballer who played as a defender. Lescott played at a number of Football League clubs, most notably a six-year spell at Bristol Rovers and a three-year spell at Stockport County. A product of the Aston Villa Academy, Playing career Lescott started his career as a trainee with Aston Villa making only one first team appearance for them (in the FA Cup third round tie against Hull City). Unable to establish himself at Villa, he had a loan spell with Lincoln City in 2000, before signing for Sheffield Wednesday in October of the same year for a fee of £100,000. Jamie Charles Stuart Paterson (born 20 December 1991) is an English professional footballer who plays as a forward for Plymouth Argyle. He can also operate as both a winger and forward. Career Walsall Born in Coventry, Paterson made his senior debut for Walsall on 31 August 2010, in a 2–1 defeat to Chesterfield in the Football League Trophy, making his league début four days later, in a 1–0 home loss to Colchester United. Richard Taundry
Richard Daniel Taundry (born 15 February 1989) is a professional footballer who last played for National League North side Leamington, where he played as both a defender and a midfielder. He is perhaps best known for making 192 appearances for Walsall, the club at which he started his career. Career Early career Taundry is a versatile player who can play in a number of positions including right back, right midfield and left back. Paul Marshall (footballer)
Paul Anthony Marshall (born 9 July 1989) is an English professional football manager and former footballer who played in the English Football League. He is the manager of club West Didsbury & Chorlton. As a player, he was a midfielder, and he began his career with Manchester City; after several years in the youth ranks, he turned professional with the club in 2008. Alex Nicholls (born 9 December 1987) is an English former professional footballer who played as both a midfielder and a striker. Jonathan Paul Macken (born 7 September 1977) is a football manager and former professional player who played as a striker. He is manager of Stalybridge Celtic. He began his career with Premier League side Manchester United in 1995 but was released two years later after failing to make a first-team appearance. Darren Asherton Byfield (born 29 September 1976) is a former professional footballer. He is currently a first-team coach at Walsall. Byfield won six caps for Jamaica in 2003, and has scored 110 goals in 484 appearances across all domestic competitions so far in his football career. Matthew Lee Richards (born 26 December 1984) is an English former professional Association football, footballer who played as a midfielder or Defender (association football)#Full-back, left back.
