2010 Liverpool City Council Election
Elections to Liverpool City Council were held on 6 May 2010. One third of the council was up for election. (30 seats) As Liverpool Council is elected in thirds, councillors elected in the 2006 elections defend their seats this year, and the vote share changes are compared on that basis. Liverpool is a port City status in the United Kingdom, city and metropolitan borough in Merseyside, England. It is situated on the eastern side of the River Mersey, Mersey Estuary, near the Irish Sea, north-west of London. Everton (ward)
Everton ward was an electoral division of Liverpool City Council in the Liverpool Walton Parliamentary constituency. Background The ward was created in 1835 as an original ward of Liverpool Town Council under the Municipal Corporations Act 1835. The ward boundaries were changed in 1953 and in 1973 was merged into the Central, Everton, Netherfield ward before being re-established in 1980. The boundaries were again changed in 2004 and the ward was split into three parts in 2023. 1980 boundaries A report of the Local Government Boundary Commission for England published in November 1978 set out proposals for changes to the wards of Liverpool City Council, maintaining the number of councillors at 99 representing 33 wards. Joe Anderson (politician)
Joseph Anderson, (born 24 January 1958) is a British politician who served as the first directly elected Mayor of Liverpool from 2012 to 2021. A member of the Labour Party until his suspension in November 2020, he also served as Leader of Liverpool City Council from 2010 to 2012. Anderson was the leader of Liverpool City Council from the 2010 Council election until the 2012 Mayoral election. He was elected Mayor of Liverpool on 3 May 2012, winning with 57% of the vote. He won a second term in May 2016 with 52.6% of the vote. He was also on the board of directors at Liverpool Vision, an Urban Regeneration Company within the city. He represented Liverpool City Council as a member of the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority. Riverside ward was an electoral division of Liverpool City Council covering the southern city centre, the Dingle, and parts of Toxteth. Background The ward was established in 2004 and dissolved in 2023. 2004 boundaries A review by the Boundary Committee for England recommended that the council was formed of a reduced number of 90 members elected from 30 wards. The ward was formed from the former Abercromby and Dingle wards. The ward was part of the Liverpool Riverside Parliamentary constituency. Princes Park (Liverpool Ward)
Princes Park ward is a Liverpool City Council Ward in the Liverpool Riverside Parliamentary constituency. Background The ward was created in 1895 and was within the Liverpool West Toxteth constituency. The ward was retained during the 1953 boundary review, before being merged with the Granby ward to form Granby Princes Park ward in 1973. The ward was re-created in the 2003 boundary review, and retained as a smaller ward electing one councillor in the 2022 review. 2004 boundaries The ward was reinstated for the 2004 Municipal elections taking the whole of the former Granby ward with part of the former Abercromby and Smithdown wards.
