2010 Icelandic Men's Football League Cup was the 15th season of the Icelandic Men's Football League Cup, Icelandic Men's League Cup, a pre-season professional football (soccer), football competition in Iceland. The competition started on 20 February 2010 and concluded on 1 May 2010. Knattspyrnufélag Reykjavíkur, KR Reykjavík beat Breiðablik UBK, Breiðablik 2–1 in the final and won their fourth League Cup title. The 24 teams were divided into 3 groups of 8 teams. Every team played every other team of its group once, either home or away. Top 2 teams from each group and the two best third-placed qualified for the quarter-finals. Knattspyrnufélag Reykjavíkur (, ), commonly abbreviated to KR, is an Icelandic football club based in the Vesturbær district of the capital, Reykjavík. KR is the oldest and most successful club in Icelandic football, having won the Besta deild karla championship 27 times, including the first season in 1912. ''Knattspyrnufélagið Fram'' (, ) is a professional Icelandic sports club, best known for its football and handball teams. It was founded on 1 May 1908 in Reykjavík. It was based at Safamýri, in the Háaleiti og Bústaðir district near Reykjavík city centre before slowly moving operations to the newly established Grafarholt district. The football team currently plays in the top division, the Besta deild karla after being promoted in the 2021 season. Keflavík ÍF (Keflavík, íþrótta- og ungmennafélag, ) is an Icelandic sports club, from the town of Reykjanesbær. The club has several divisions for different sports: football, basketball, swimming, gymnastics, badminton, shooting, and taekwondo. Penalty Shootout (association Football)
In association football, a penalty shoot-out (previously known as kicks from the penalty mark) is a tie-breaking method to determine which team is awarded victory in a match that cannot end in a draw, when the score is tied after the normal time as well as extra time (if used) has expired. For example, in a FIFA World Cup, penalties are used in elimination matches; the round of 32, the round of 16, the quarter-finals, the semi-finals, and the final. In a penalty shoot-out, each team takes turns shooting at goal from the penalty mark, with the goal defended only by the opposing team's goalkeeper. Each team has five shots which must be taken by different players; the team that makes more successful kicks is declared the victor. Shoot-outs finish as soon as one team has an insurmountable lead. Knattspyrnufélagið Þróttur (, ), also referred to as Þróttur Reykjavík or Throttur, is a professional sports club from Reykjavík in Iceland. Íþróttabandalag Vestmannaeyja (, ), commonly known as ÍBV, is an Icelandic multi-sports district association from Vestmannaeyjar off the south coast of Iceland. It was founded in 1903 as Knattspyrnufélag Vestmannaeyja by Björgúlfur Ólafsson, military doctor for the Dutch army. It was soon renamed to Knattspyrnufélag Vestmannaeyja (KV) and then to Íþróttabandalag Vestmannaeyja (ÍBV) héraðssamband in 1945. Handknattleiksfélag Kópavogs ("Kópavogur Handball Club"), commonly abbreviated to HK, is an Icelandic sports club from the town of Kópavogur. There are six divisions within the club and they are: handball, Association football, football (soccer), volleyball, dance, table tennis and bandy. Íþróttafélagið Grótta (, ) is an Icelandic sports club based in the town of Seltjarnarnes, in the Capital Region. The club is best known for its women's handball team that won the national championship in 2015 and 2016, but also has departments for gymnastics, football and powerlifting. History Grótta was officially founded on 24 April 1967 by Garðar Guðmundsson, a football supporter from Seltjarnarnes who had begun the process of forming a club the previous year. The Valur men's football team, commonly known as Valur (, ), is the men's football department of the Knattspyrnufélagið Valur multi-sport club.
