2010 European Athletics Championships
The 2010 European Athletics Championships were the 20th edition of the European Athletics Championships, organised under the supervision of the European Athletic Association. They were held at the Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys in Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain from 27 July to 1 August 2010. Barcelona was the first Spanish city to host the European Championships. Barni was the mascot of the event, he was the main promotional tool of the Championship. His name comes from Barna and was designed by the workshop Dortoka. Meselech Melkamu
Meselech Melkamu (born 19 April 1985) is an Ethiopian Long-distance track event, long-distance runner. She defeated Meseret Defar to win the 5000 metres gold medal at the 2008 African Championships in Athletics, 2008 African Athletics Championships, but she is better known for her 29:53.80 run over 10,000 metres in 2009, which until August 2016 ranked her second on the all-time list behind world record holder Wang Junxia. She is one of seven women in history to break the 30-minute barrier and one of four Ethiopians to accomplish the feat. Melkamu was born in Debre Marqos. Sabrina Mockenhaupt (born 6 December 1980 in Siegen) is a German long-distance runner who specialises in track and field, track events and the marathon. She is a two-time winner of the Cologne Marathon and has also won the Frankfurt Marathon and the Berlin Half Marathon. Meryem Erdoğan
Meryem Erdoğan (formerly ''Mariam Tanga'' or ''Mariam Hana Dingo'', born 24 April 1990) is an Ethiopian-born Turkish long-distance runner. In 2012 Erdoğan was banned for two years after doping. Personal life She was born on 24 April 1990, in Ethiopia. Impressed by her countrywoman Elvan Abeylegesse, who became a renowned athlete after acquiring Turkish citizenship, she decided to go to Turkey in order to become an athlete there. In 2006, at age of 16, she illegally immigrated to Turkey via Beirut, Lebanon. She was caught by police in Istanbul, however barely escaped deportation. Following adventurous times, she was acknowledged as a talented athlete candidate by Ertan Hatipoğlu, the former coach of Abeylegesse. Her application for Turkish citizenship was accepted in January 2010. Inga Eduardovna Abitova (, born 6 March 1982 in Novokuybyshevsk) is a Russian long-distance runner, who specializes in the 10,000 metres and the marathon. She was the 2006 European Champion in the 10,000 m and reached the final at the 2008 Summer Olympics. Doping In 2012, she was given a two-year ban for breaking anti-doping regulations. The reason given was an "abnormal haemoglobin profile in her biological passport". Her competition results will be annulled, beginning 10 October 2009 and her suspension began on 11 October 2012. In May 2016, it was reported that Abitova was one of 14 Russian athletes, implicated in doping following the retesting of urine from the 2008 Olympic Games. Abitova was named by Russian press agency TASS as having failed the retest, which was undertaken following the Russian doping scandal of 2015 and 2016.
