2009–10 Western Michigan Broncos Men's Basketball Team
The 2009–10 Western Michigan Broncos men's basketball team was an NCAA Division I college basketball team representing Western Michigan University. The team was the two-time defending Mid-American Conference (MAC) West Division champion. WMU was coached by Steve Hawkins who was in his seventh season as head coach of the school. The Broncos played their home games at University Arena in Kalamazoo, Michigan. They finished the season 18–15, 8–8 in MAC play and lost in the semifinals of the 2010 MAC men's basketball tournament. Pre-season Western Michigan was picked to finish fifth in the MAC's West Division by members of the MAC News Media Panel. The Broncos received four first-place votes. Steve Hawkins
Stephen Greg Hawkins (born August 3, 1962) is an American college basketball coach. He is currently an assistant men's basketball coach for Southern Illinois University Carbondale, a position he has held since 2024. He had previously served as the head coach at Western Michigan University and Quincy University. Coaching career Early career Hawkins was born in Ventura, California. Following his graduation from high school, Hawkins spent time as a high school basketball coach in the Los Angeles area at Villanova Preparatory School and St. Bonaventure High School during the early 1980s. During this time he worked as an assistant at UCLA basketball camps, serving as chauffeur for legendary Bruins coach John Wooden. While the two were stuck in traffic, they were able to talk basketball. Gobles is a city in Van Buren County of the U.S. state of Michigan. As of the 2010 census, the city population was 829. It was originally called Gobleville, after its founders, the Goble family. History In 1864–1865, John Goble built a hotel at this location. In 1870, a plot was laid out as Gobleville by Hiram E. Goble. Warren Goble plotted an addition to the original plot two years later.
