Esteghlal Football Club ( fa, باشگاه فوتبال استقلال, ''Bâšgâh-è Futbâl-è Esteqlâl''), commonly known as Esteghlal ( fa, استقلال, meaning 'The Independence'), is an Iranian football club based in capital Tehran that competes in the Persian Gulf Pro League. The first team of the capital of Iran, the club was founded in 1945 as The Cyclists ( fa, دوچرخه سواران, Dočarxe Savârân) and previously known as Tâj ( fa, تاج; meaning 'The Crown') between 1949 and 1979. The club is part of the multisport club Esteghlal of Iran Athletic and Cultural Company ( fa, شرکت فرهنگی ورزشی استقلال ایران). They were the first team to reach 1,000 points in Persian Gulf Pro League. Since the 1973–74 season, Esteghlal has played its home games at the Azadi, which has a seating capacity of 78,116, though it can hold more people during important matches. Hossein Kazemi ( fa, حسین كاظمی, born October 3, 1979 in Tehran, Iran) is retired Iranian football player who last played for Aluminium in Azadegan League. He has also featured in an episode of a TV serie in Iran, with former Esteghlal team-mate, Ali Ansarian. Club career After starting his career at his hometown club Saipa, he later moved to Pro League rivals Esteghlal He was an on-and-off player during the 2004–05 season, but became a pivotal part in the season and won a fixed spot in stacked midfield. Mohammad Mohammadi ( fa, محمد محمدی, born September 20, 1977) is a retired Iranian footballer who played as a goalkeeper. Club career He became a regular player under Rainer Zobel in Persepolis and moved to Paykan. He moved to First division team Steel Azin in 2007 and returned to Paykan and IPL. He signed for Esteghlal in July 2009. After starting the most recent season in the IPL as a reserve, he eventually found good form and replaced Vahid Taleblou as Esteghlal's starting goalkeeper, playing in almost all key matches, including the Asian Champions League. Hanif Omran Zadeh ( fa, حنیف عمران زاده, born April 30, 1985) is an Iranian former footballer who played as a defender and current assistant coach of Naft Masjed Soleyman.
