2009–10 EHF Champions League
The 2009–10 EHF Champions League was the 50th edition of Europe's premier club handball tournament and the seventeenth edition under the current EHF Champions League format. It was also the first edition under the new qualifying format. Ciudad Real were the defending champions. The final was played on 30 May 2010, at the Lanxess Arena, home ground of VfL Gummersbach and Kölner Haie, in Cologne, Germany. Draw The draw for the group stage took place at the Liechtenstein Museum in Vienna on 24 June 2009. A total of 24 teams were drawn into four groups of six. Teams were divided into four pots, based on EHF coefficients. Clubs from the same pot or the same association cannot be drawn into the same group. Each team played against each other in its group twice. The top two in each group proceeded to the knockout stage, and the third-placed teams entered the EHF Cup's Winners Cup Round of 32. EHF Champions League
The EHF Champions League is the most important club handball competition for men's teams in Europe and involves the leading teams from the top European nations. The competition is organised every year by EHF. The official name for the men's competition is the EHF Champions League Men. The EHF coefficient rank decides which teams have access and in which stage they enter. Eligibility and qualifying Each year, the EHF publishes a ranking list of its member federations. The first 9 nations are automatically permitted to participate in the tournament with their national champion. The national federation ranked first place in the EHF European League, currently Germany, is awarded a second qualification berth for the domestic runner-up. PAOK Handball Club is the handball section of PAOK, the major multi-sports club based in Thessaloniki, Greece. PAOK has both men's and women's team. So far, men's team has won 3 Greek Championships and 4 Greek Cups and women's team has won 6 Greek Championships and 7 Greek Cups. Despite its relatively short history, it is considered amongst the most successful departments of the club. History PAOK Handball Club was founded in 1999 after it merged with another club from Thessaloniki, Triton. Stelios Seirekidis, former club's coach, has connected his name with the whole club's history. PAOK was promoted to A1 Ethniki for first time in 2000–01 season. RK Budućnost (Cyrillic: PК Будућност) is a handball club from Podgorica, Montenegro, which was champion of Montenegro for the two times. It is a part of Budućnost sport society. History During the most of their history, Budućnost played in the Second Yugoslav League.
