2009 World Championships In Athletics – Men's Long Jump
The men's long jump at the 2009 World Championships in Athletics was held at the Olympic Stadium on 20 and 22 August. The season had seen a number of athletes performing to a high level before the championships, with reigning World and Olympic champion Irving Saladino. The other athlete to jump that distance was Dwight Phillips, who is the world leader with a jump of 8.74 meters. Dwight Phillips took bronze in 2007 and is looking for his first win over Irving Saladino at an international level. Italy's Andrew Howe, the 2007 world silver medalist, withdrew from the Championships. Other expected to medal content are Olympic silver medalist Godfrey Khotso Mokoena and Olympic Bronze Medalist Ibrahim Camejo. 2009 World Championships In Athletics
The 12th IAAF World Championships in Athletics () were held in Berlin, Germany from 15 to 23 August 2009. The majority of events took place in the Olympiastadion, while the marathon and racewalking events started and finished at the Brandenburg Gate. Organization Bidding process Berlin was announced the winning bidder by the IAAF on 6 December 2004 beating out bids from Split (Croatia), Valencia (Spain), Brisbane (Australia), Brussels (Belgium), Delhi (India), Casablanca (Morocco) and Daegu (South Korea). The city of Berlin and the Deutscher Leichtathletik-Verband (German Athletics Association) are responsible for the organisation of the event. Jai Taurima
Jai Desmond Taurima (born 26 June 1972 in Southport, Queensland) is an Australian retired athlete who competed in the long jump. Despite smoking a packet of cigarettes a day, he won a surprising silver medal at the 2000 Olympics with a personal best jump of 8.49 metres. This was the Oceanic record at the time. He is the son of Elaine (†) and Floyd Taurima, and a sibling of Corrie and Australian track and field coach Stacey Taurima. His partner is Jennifer Smith. He is also known as Jumping Jai or Jumping Jai Taurima. In addition, Taurima won a silver medal at the 1998 Commonwealth Games. Since retiring from athletics, Taurima has joined the Australian Federal Police. Tsaghkadzor
Tsaghkadzor (, ) is a resort town and urban municipal community in the Kotayk Province of Armenia. It is a popular ski and health resort and one of Armenia's most important tourist destinations. It is situated on the eastern side of Mount Teghenis, northwest of the provincial capital Hrazdan and northeast of the capital Yerevan. In antiquity, Tsaghkadzor served as a summer residence for the Arsacid kings of Armenia. Robert Emmiyan
Robert Emmiyan (; born 15 February 1965) is a retired long jumper who represented the USSR and Armenia. He is the fourth best long jumper in history. His personal best jump of 8.86 metres, which he achieved in Tsaghkadzor in May 1987, is the current European record. Emmiyan received the Honoured Master of Sports of the USSR award in 1987. An annual track and field meeting in Artashat, Armenia, has been held in his honour since 2001 – the Emmiyan Cup. Biography At age 16, Robert Emmiyan jumped 7.77 meters, the best jump in the world for his age group. Emmiyan started competing for the Soviet Union in athletics on an international level in 1981.
