2009 Virginia Cavaliers Men's Soccer Team
The 2009 Virginia Cavaliers men's soccer team represented the University of Virginia during the College soccer in the United States, 2009 NCAA Division I men's soccer season. It was the Cavaliers' 69th season fielding a men's varsity soccer program, and the program's 56th season playing in the Atlantic Coast Conference. The Cavaliers had one of their most successful seasons in program history, winning both the ACC Men's Soccer Tournament, and the NCAA Division I Men's Soccer Tournament. The Cavs won their first ACC Tournament title since 2004, and their first NCAA Tournament title since 1994. It was head coach George Gelnovatch's first year winning the NCAA title. Altogether, it was the Cavs' sixth national championship season. Additionally, the Cavs won the minor early season Portland/Nike Invitational. George Gelnovatch
George Gelnovatch (born February 12, 1965) is the men's soccer coach at the University of Virginia. He played professionally in the MISL I, Major Indoor Soccer League and American Professional Soccer League. As head coach, he has led Virginia Cavaliers men's soccer, Virginia men's soccer to the NCAA Division I Men's Soccer Championship, College Cup Final Four in 1997, 2006, 2009, 2013, 2014, and 2019. Under his leadership, Virginia won its sixth and seventh NCAA National Championships of the sport in 2009 NCAA Division I Men's Soccer Championship, 2009 and 2014 NCAA Division I Men's Soccer Championship, 2014. Ross LaBauex
Ross LaBauex (born December 5, 1988) is an American soccer player. Career College and amateur LaBauex attended Mark Sheridan Math and Science Academy, and then Mount Carmel High School in Chicago, and played college soccer at the University of Virginia from 2006 to 2009. He also spent time with USL Premier Development League club Chicago Fire Premier in 2007, where he made 5 appearances. Before college, he was named 2006 NSCAA All-American. Professional LaBauex was drafted in the second round (23rd overall) of the 2010 MLS SuperDraft by Colorado Rapids. He made his professional debut on March 26, 2010, in Colorado's first game of the 2010 MLS season against Chivas USA. Currently he works at Whitney M. Young Magnet High School as the assistant varsity coach. While his tactile coaching helps his players real benefit to the team is his role as a hype man. West Virginia Mountaineers Men's Soccer
The West Virginia Mountaineers men's soccer team is the National Collegiate Athletic Association Division I soccer team of West Virginia University (WVU). Beginning with the 2012 season, the team was an affiliate member of the Mid-American Conference because WVU is the only school in its primary conference, the Big 12 Conference, that has a varsity men's soccer team. For the 2022 season, West Virginia joined in-state rival Marshall in the Sun Belt Conference, and the Mountain State Derby will become an annual conference game. William R. Bates (born April 1, 1991) is an American soccer player who plays for the Richmond Strikers of the National Premier Soccer League. Career High school Bates attended and played soccer at Thomas Dale High School under head coach Mark Fowler. During his career at TD, he was a four time starter, four time all-district player, two time all-region player, all-state player, and two-time state champion. Tony Ghislain Tchani (; born 13 April 1989) is a Cameroonian retired footballer who played as a midfielder. Shawn Maurice Barry (born April 23, 1990) is a Puerto Rican former professional footballer who played as a defender.
