Fair Park Arena
The W. F. "Bill" Harris State Fair Arena (called Bill Harris Arena or Fair Park Arena) is a 5,000-seat multipurpose indoor arena located at the Birmingham CrossPlex (formerly Alabama State Fairgrounds). The arena is used primarily for basketball, but also hosts concerts and other events. The arena has previously served as the home of the Birmingham Magicians and the Birmingham Blitz of the American Basketball Association and the Alabama Outlawz of X-League Indoor Football. It is named in honor of Bill Harris, longtime athletics director for Birmingham City Schools. In 2022, it served as the venue for the artistic roller skating and inline hockey competitions at the 2022 World Games. 2008–09 Alabama State Hornets Basketball Team
The 2008–09 Alabama State Hornets basketball team represented Alabama State University in the 2008–09 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The Hornets, led by head coach Lewis Jackson, played their home games at Dunn–Oliver Acadome in Montgomery, Alabama, as members of the Southwestern Athletic Conference. The Hornets won the SWAC regular season title, then won the 2009 SWAC tournament to earn an automatic bid to the NCAA tournament as a 16th seed in the Midwest region. Lewis Jackson (basketball, Born 1962)
Lewis Jackson (born August 13, 1962) is the former men's college basketball head coach at Alabama State University. He took over as head coach in 2005, after Rob Spivery departed to take the head coach's job at Southern University. Jackson resigned from ASU on March 27, 2020, after 15 seasons. Prior to becoming the head coach at Alabama State, Jackson was an assistant coach for five years on Spivery's staff. Jackson also played basketball at Alabama State, currently sitting fourth on Alabama State's all-time scoring list, and was named Southwestern Athletic Conference, SWAC Player of the Year in his senior year. Jackson was inducted into both the Alabama State and SWAC Hall of Fames, and his number was retired by both Alabama State and his high school, Wetumpka High School. Andrew Hayles
Andrew Hayles (born March 4, 1987) is an American former professional basketball player. He played college basketball for the Alabama State Hornets before playing professionally in Spain and in the American Basketball Association (ABA) Hayles is from Mobile, Alabama. He attended LeFlore Magnet High School where he was a standout basketball player, which eventually landed him a scholarship to play for Alabama State University. During his college career, which spanned between 2005–06 and 2008–09, he led the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) in numerous statistical categories. As a junior, he was first in effective field goal percentage (.545) and turnover percentage (10.5%). For his solid season, Hayles was named the Southwestern Athletic Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Year in 2007–08. 2008–09 Mississippi Valley State Delta Devils Basketball Team
The 2008–09 Mississippi Valley State Delta Devils basketball team represented Mississippi Valley State University during the 2008–09 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The Delta Devils played their home games at Harrison HPER Complex as members of the Southwestern Athletic Conference. The Delta Devils finished the season 7–25 overall and 7–11 in SWAC conference play under first year head coach Sean Woods. SWAC Men's Basketball Tournament
The SWAC men's basketball tournament (popularly known as the SWAC tournament) is the conference championship tournament in basketball for the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC). The tournament has been held every year since 1978. It is a single-elimination tournament and seeding is based on regular season records. The winner, declared conference champion, receives the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Division I men's basketball tournament. On seven occasions, the SWAC champion has won an NCAA Division I tournament game (two being in the first round and five in preliminary rounds).
