2009 European Road Championships
The 2009 European Road Championships were held in Hooglede-Gits and Ostend, Belgium, between 1–5 July 2009. The event consisted of a road race and a time trial for men and women under 23 and juniors. The championships were regulated by the European Cycling Union. Hooglede-Gits
Hooglede (; ) is a municipality located in the Belgian province of West Flanders. The municipality comprises the towns of and Hooglede proper. On January 1, 2006, Hooglede had a total population of 9,831. The total area is 37.84 km2 which gives a population density of 260 inhabitants per km2. Hooglede-Gits was the site of the 2007 UCI Cyclo-cross World Championships. Hooglede houses one of the 4 German War Cemeteries in Belgium, the Hooglede German War Cemetery. Economy The Deceuninck company is based in Hooglede, as is MOL Trucks. Politics From 1989 till 2012, politics in Hooglede were dominated by the cartel SAMEN (consisting of sp.a, N-VA and Open Vld). Emilia Fahlin
Emilia Fahlin (born 24 October 1988) is a Swedish road racing cyclist, who currently rides for UCI Women's Continental Team . Fahlin has won the Swedish National Road Race Championships four times (2008, 2013, 2018, 2023) and the Swedish National Time Trial Championships three times in a row from 2009 to 2011. Career Born in Örebro, Sweden, Fahlin competed at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London during the women's road race, finishing 19th, and in the women's time trial, finishing 17th. At the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, she finished 27th in the Women's road race. Two weeks later, in late-August 2016, she won her first World Tour race, the Open de Suède Vårgårda in Sweden. In June 2019, Fahlin announced that she would be taking a break from racing to recover from injuries sustained in a training crash. 2009 In Road Cycling
9 (nine) is the natural number following and preceding . Evolution of the Hindu–Arabic digit Circa 300 BC, as part of the Brahmi numerals, various Indians wrote a digit 9 similar in shape to the modern closing question mark without the bottom dot. The Kshatrapa, Andhra and Gupta started curving the bottom vertical line coming up with a -look-alike. How the numbers got to their Gupta form is open to considerable debate. The Nagari continued the bottom stroke to make a circle and enclose the 3-look-alike, in much the same way that the sign @ encircles a lowercase ''a''. As time went on, the enclosing circle became bigger and its line continued beyond the circle downwards, as the 3-look-alike became smaller. Soon, all that was left of the 3-look-alike was a squiggle. The Arabs simply connected that squiggle to the downward stroke at the middle and subsequent European change was purely cosmetic. Pauline Ferrand-Prévot (born 10 February 1992) is a French multi-discipline bicycle racer, who rides for UCI Women's World Tour team Visma–Lease a Bike Ferrand-Prévot has also competed in Mountain Biking and cyclo-cross during her career, winning the world title in each discipline.
