2009–10 NCAA Division I Women's Basketball Season
The 2009–10 NCAA Division I women's basketball season began in November 2009 and ended with the 2010 NCAA Women's Division I Basketball Tournament's championship game on April 6, 2010 at the Alamodome in San Antonio. The tournament opened with the first and second rounds on Thursday through Sunday, March 18–21, 2010. Regional games were played on Thursday through Sunday, March 28–31, 2010, with the Final Four played on Sunday and Tuesday, April 4 and 6, 2010. The Connecticut Huskies successfully defended their national title from the previous season, defeating Stanford 53–47 in the final. This was the Huskies' second consecutive unbeaten championship season, unprecedented since the NCAA began to organize women's basketball in the 1981–82 season. Alamodome
The Alamodome is a 64,000-seat domed indoor multi-purpose stadium in San Antonio, Texas. It is located on the southeastern fringe of downtown San Antonio. The facility opened on May 15, 1993, having been constructed at a cost of $186 million. The multi-purpose facility was intended to increase the city's convention traffic and attract a professional football franchise. It also placated the San Antonio Spurs' demands for a larger arena. The Spurs played in the Alamodome for a decade, then became disenchanted with the facility and convinced Bexar County, Texas, Bexar County to construct a new arena for them, now called the Frost Bank Center. The Alamodome's regular tenants are currently the San Antonio Brahmas of the United Football League (2024), United Football League and the UTSA Roadrunners football, UTSA Roadrunners. Tiffany Kiara Hayes (born September 20, 1989) is an American-Azerbaijani professional basketball player for the Golden State Valkyries of the Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA). Hayes played college basketball for the Connecticut Huskies, playing for the 2009 and 2010 NCAA National Champions. Early life Hayes was born September 20, 1989, in Winter Haven, a city in Central Florida, to Dorothy and Renard Hayes. Hayes played basketball for Winter Haven High School in Winter Haven, Florida. Kara Elizabeth Wolters (born August 15, 1975) is an American former collegiate and professional basketball player and a current sports broadcaster. Standing at and nicknamed "Big Girl," she is the tallest player in University of Connecticut women's basketball history and one of the tallest women to ever play in the WNBA. Kayla Danielle Pedersen (born April 14, 1989) is an American basketball forward who is currently a free agent. She was selected 7th overall in the 2011 WNBA draft.
