2009–10 Croatian Football Cup
The 2009–10 Croatian Football Cup was the nineteenth season of Croatia's football knockout competition. The defending champions were Dinamo Zagreb since they won the previous year's cup by defeating Hajduk Split on penalties after the result was tied 3–3 on aggregate. The cup kicked off with the single-legged preliminary round which was played on 25 and 26 August 2009. Top flight clubs entered the competition in the following round, played on 22 and 23 September 2009. The two-legged final was played on 21 April and 5 May 2010, and was contested by Šibenik and Hajduk Split. This was the first cup final for Šibenik, and a first time that they had passed through beyond the second round in the Croatian Cup. Hajduk Split won their fifth cup in nine finals. Quarter-finals
A single-elimination knockout, or sudden-death tournament is a type of elimination tournament where the loser of a match-up is immediately eliminated from the tournament. Each winner will play another in the next round, until the final match-up, whose winner becomes the tournament champion(s). Some match-ups may be a single match or several, for example two-legged ties in European sports or best-of series in North American pro sports. Penalty Shootout (association Football)
In association football, a penalty shoot-out (previously known as kicks from the penalty mark) is a tie-breaking method to determine which team is awarded victory in a match that cannot end in a draw, when the score is tied after the normal time as well as extra time (if used) has expired. For example, in a FIFA World Cup, penalties are used in elimination matches; the round of 32, the round of 16, the quarter-finals, the semi-finals, and the final. In a penalty shoot-out, each team takes turns shooting at goal from the penalty mark, with the goal defended only by the opposing team's goalkeeper. Each team has five shots which must be taken by different players; the team that makes more successful kicks is declared the victor. Shoot-outs finish as soon as one team has an insurmountable lead. NK Croatia Sesvete
NK Croatia Sesvete was a Croatian football club based in the Sesvete district of the City of Zagreb. Previous club names: NK Sljeme (1957–1988), NK Sesvete (1988–1996), NK Badel Sesvete (1996–1997), NK Sesvete (1997–1998). The club was dissolved in 2012 due to financial irregularities. Newly formed NK Croatia Prigorje is seen as club's spiritual successor. 2010 Match fixing scandal In June 2010 Croatian Police started making arrests connected to match fixing in the Croatian League. 20 players in total, including 9 players from Croatia Sesvete were arrested. The nine were: Miljenko Bošnjak, Goran Jerković, Saša Mus, Ante Pokrajčić, Mario Čižmek, Marko Guja, Ivan Banović and Dario Šušak. NK Slavonac is a Croatian football club based in a village Stari Perkovci in Slavonia. Slavonac clinched promotion to an expanded 1. HNL in 2009 after finishing 4th in the second division. However, since the club plays in a village of only 1,300 people, they were not able to secure a home ground for the top flight in nearby Slavonski Brod and were instead administratively relegated. HNK Orijent is a football club from Sušak, the eastern part of the city of Rijeka, Croatia. The club was established under the name ''Orient'' in 1919. They currently compete in the 1.
