2008–09 Western Michigan Broncos Men's Basketball Team
The 2008–09 Western Michigan Broncos men's basketball team was a National Collegiate Athletic Association Division I college basketball team representing Western Michigan University. The team was the defending Mid-American Conference (MAC) West Division champion and was picked to finish first in the MAC West Division by members of the MAC News Media Association. WMU opened the season losing to in the first game of the inaugural Charleston Classic. In February 2009, redshirt freshman Justin Hairston decided to transfer. Steve Hawkins
Stephen Greg Hawkins (born August 3, 1962) is an American college basketball coach. He is currently an assistant men's basketball coach for Southern Illinois University Carbondale, a position he has held since 2024. He had previously served as the head coach at Western Michigan University and Quincy University. Coaching career Early career Hawkins was born in Ventura, California. Following his graduation from high school, Hawkins spent time as a high school basketball coach in the Los Angeles area at Villanova Preparatory School and St. Bonaventure High School during the early 1980s. During this time he worked as an assistant at UCLA basketball camps, serving as chauffeur for legendary Bruins coach John Wooden. While the two were stuck in traffic, they were able to talk basketball. Cleveland State Vikings
The Cleveland State Vikings, or Vikes, are the athletic teams of Cleveland State University. Before as Fenn College they were known as the Fenn College Foxes or Fenn Foxes. Cleveland State competes in NCAA Division I. The Vikings have competed in NCAA Division I since 1972. They were previously members of the NCAA College Division, a precursor to NCAA Division II. David Anderson Kool (born September 23, 1987) is a former collegiate basketball player for the Western Michigan Broncos men's basketball team. Kool is WMU's all-time leading scorer and was named Mid-American Conference (MAC) Player of the Year in his senior season.
