Kilmarnock FC Women
Kilmarnock Football Club Women is a women's football team based in Kilmarnock, East Ayrshire that plays in the SWPL 2. Founded as Stewarton Thistle, the club is the oldest women's football team in Scotland and celebrated its 50th anniversary in July 2011. History Stewarton Thistle Local historian Alastair Barclay wrote in 1973 that a girls' soccer team was founded in Stewarton 12 years previously "more or less for laughs" but had quickly eclipsed the modest achievements of the town's male teams. Sue Lopez recorded in her ''Women on the Ball'' book (1997) that the club was formed in 1961 at the Lord Provost's request, to raise money for the Freedom from Hunger campaign. Forthbank Stadium is a football stadium in Stirling, Scotland. Opened in 1993, it has been the home ground of Scottish Professional Football League club Stirling Albion since then. Ruesha Littlejohn (born 3 July 1990) is a professional footballer who plays as a midfielder for Shamrock Rovers and the Republic of Ireland. Jane Celestina Ross (born 18 September 1989) is a Scottish footballer who plays as a striker for Rangers in the Scottish Women's Premier League, and the Scotland national team. Club career Glasgow City Ross grew up on the Isle of Bute and after attending local coaching clinics, began her career at youth level with Paisley Saints Ladies. By the age of 16, she had already been called into the Scotland Women's under-19 squad. In June 2006, she joined Glasgow City, where she won six Scottish Women's Premier League titles, three Scottish Cups and three League Cups. 2008–09 Scottish Women's Premier League
The 2008–09 Scottish Women's Premier League was the seventh season of the Scottish Women's Premier League, the top level of women's football in Scotland. Matches were played between August 2008 and May 2009. 12 teams were originally invited to contest the championship, with Boroughmuir Thistle and Dundee United SC, winners and runners-up respectively in the 2007–08 SWFL First Division (Boroughmuir had completed that season as Dalkeith Thistle), taking the places of Newburgh, who had folded prior to the start of the 2007–08 SWPL leaving the division with 11 teams, and relegated Vale of Clyde. However, Queen's Park withdrew after the 2008–09 campaign started but without having themselves playing a match, so 11 teams again took part. Springburn
Springburn () is an inner-city district in the north of the Scottish city of Glasgow, made up of generally working-class households. Springburn developed from a rural hamlet at the beginning of the 19th century. Its industrial expansion began with the establishment of a chemical works by Charles Tennant on the newly opened Monkland Canal at nearby St. Rollox in 1799, which later became part of the United Alkali Company. Later in the 19th century, the construction of railway lines through the area led to the establishment of railway works and the village became a parish in its own right.
