2008–09 Scarlets Season
The 2008–09 season is the sixth in the history of the Scarlets regional side. The season will see the Scarlets compete in three competitions: the Celtic League, the EDF Energy Cup and the Heineken Cup. The season welcomes a change of ground, with the team moving from their home of over 125 years, Stradey Park, to a new stadium in Pemberton named Parc y Scarlets, as well as a change in the team name, dropping the "Llanelli" from their moniker to become the Scarlets. Pre-season and friendlies Celtic League The Scarlets opened their 2008-09 Celtic League season away to Ulster on 5 September 2008. Despite playing against the wind in the first half, the Scarlets scored an early penalty in the sixth minute, before Darren Daniel scored the first try of the game, crossing in the corner. Clinton Schifcofske scored three penalties in response to make the half-time score 10–9 to the visitors. Nigel Davies (rugby Union)
Nigel Gareth Davies (born 29 March 1965) is a former Wales national rugby union team, Wales international rugby union player, who played his club rugby at Llanelli RFC. His son Sam Davies (rugby union), Sam Davies is a professional rugby union player. Davies was born in Waun y Clun, Trimsaran and as a youth player played for local rugby union club Trimsaran RFC. In his final year of playing for the youth team he was invited by Llanelli RFC to play for them in a friendly match, from which he impressed enough to be selected by the club. Davies played 498 games for Llanelli including nine WRU Challenge Cup finals. During his Llanelli career he scored 115 tries and 487 points in total. Nigel also scored 5 tries whilst playing centre for Wales in 29 appearances. Davies was appointed assistant coach to the Wales national team under Gareth Jenkins and was appointed caretaker Head Coach following the departure of Jenkins after the 2007 Rugby World Cup. Rob Higgitt
Rob Higgitt (born 12 August 1981) is a Welsh former rugby union player who played as a centre. Born in St Asaph, Denbighshire, Higgitt began his rugby career with Ruthin, for whom his father was the chairman. He played for Ruthin from the age of 6 until he was 18, when he enrolled at the University of Bath. While playing rugby for the university's team, Higgitt was spotted by Bristol, who signed him up and played him in their Under-21 side. In 2002, he went on a season-long loan to Caerphilly in the Welsh Premier Division. Upon his return to Bristol, they were unable to put him on a professional contract immediately, but when he made the first team in November 2003, the club put him on a £6,000 contract. In five years in the Bristol first team, Higgitt amassed a total of 111 appearances, scoring 20 tries, and became an integral component of the team's defensive line. Clinton Schifcofske (born 10 November 1975), also known by the nickname of "Choka", is an Australian former professional rugby league and rugby union footballer.
