2008–09 San Jose Sharks Season
The 2008–09 San Jose Sharks season was the Sharks' 18th season in the National Hockey League (NHL). Season events Pre-season On June 12, the San Jose Sharks named Todd McLellan their new head coach. The Sharks traded for defensemen Dan Boyle and Brad Lukowich from the Tampa Bay Lightning and signed Rob Blake. Former Shark Jeff Friesen tried out for a spot on the team, but the team released him before the season opener. Kyle McLaren was placed on waivers, just before the regular season began. He was not claimed by any NHL team and was thus sent down to the Sharks' American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate, the Worcester Sharks, to receive more playing time and so that the Sharks could play under the salary cap. Western Conference (NHL)
The Western Conference (french: Conférence de l'Ouest) is one of two conferences in the National Hockey League (NHL) used to divide teams. Its counterpart is the Eastern Conference. History Originally named the Clarence Campbell Conference (or Campbell Conference for short), it was created in 1974 when the NHL realigned its teams into two conferences and four divisions. Because the new conferences and divisions had little to do with North American geography, geographical references were removed. The conferences and divisions were re-aligned in 1981 to better reflect the geographical locations of the teams, but the existing names were retained with the Campbell Conference becoming the conference for the NHL's westernmost teams. Brad Lukowich
Bradley J. Lukowich (born August 12, 1976) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey defenceman and former assistant coach of the Lethbridge Hurricanes of the Western Hockey League. He has won the Stanley Cup twice in his career, with the Dallas Stars in 1999 and Tampa Bay Lightning in 2004. He was on the roster of the Stars when they won the cup in 1998–99, but did not play enough games to get his name on the Cup. He is the currently coaching hockey. Playing career Lukowich played major junior in the Western Hockey League (WHL) with the Kamloops Blazers for three seasons. On December 5, 1993, he scored the goal in the first recorded teddy bear toss that prompted fans to throw a few hundred bears onto the ice. The Worcester Sharks were a professional ice hockey team in the American Hockey League (AHL) that played from 2006 to 2015. American Hockey League
The American Hockey League (AHL) is a professional ice hockey league based in the United States and Canada that serves as the primary developmental league for the National Hockey League (NHL). Kyle McLaren
Kyle Edgar McLaren (born June 18, 1977) is a Canadians, Canadian former professional ice hockey defenceman who played 12 seasons in the National Hockey League (NHL) for the Boston Bruins and San Jose Sharks. Playing career McLaren was drafted by the Boston Bruins in the first round, ninth-overall, during the 1995 NHL Entry Draft. He played his first NHL season when he was just eighteen in the 1995–96 NHL season, 1995–96 season, and was the youngest player on an NHL roster that year.
