2008–09 Queens Park Rangers F.C. Season
During the 2008–09 season, Queens Park Rangers played in the Football League Championship, their fifth consecutive season at this level. Pre-season New managerial team Ian Dowie was announced as the replacement for Luigi De Canio as manager on 14 May 2008. Tim Flowers was later named Dowie's assistant, reprising his former role with Dowie at Coventry City. Paulo Sousa was named as manager after Ian Dowie was fired. When Sousa was fired, Gareth Ainsworth became caretaker manager. Sponsorship Following the termination of the club's sponsorship deals with Car Giant, Le Coq Sportif and Sellotape at the end of the previous season, in July it was announced that Gulf Air would be the new shirt sponsors. Further sponsorship packages were also announced, including Abbey Financial Services, Chronotech and Lotto Sport Italia. Luigi De Canio
Luigi "Gigi" De Canio (born 26 September 1957) is an Italian association football, football manager and a former player who played as a Defender (association football)#Full-back, full-back. Career Player De Canio, a Defender (football)#Full-back, full back, played mostly with Serie C1 and Serie C2 teams, his lone season in Serie B being 1979–80 with F.C. Matera, Matera, marking his debut in the division on 16 September 1979 against Genoa C.F.C., Genoa. He retired in 1989 with amateur team Pisticci, of which he successively became head coach. Coach De Canio started his coaching career in 1988 with ''Promozione'' team Pisticci, immediately winning the league, being thus promoted to Serie D. Gareth Ainsworth
Gareth Ainsworth (born 10 May 1973) is an English professional former player and football manager who is the manager of club Gillingham. A former youth player at Blackburn Rovers, the midfielder, who was known for his crossing ability, moved to Preston North End in 1992 after impressing at non-League Northwich Victoria. He signed for Cambridge United, who in turn loaned him back to Northwich, and returned to Preston in 1993, establishing himself in the first-team during his second spell. Sold on to Lincoln City in 1995, his performances earned him a place on the PFA Third Division Team of the Year in 1996–97, resulting in a £500,000 move to Port Vale. After being named the Port Vale F.C. Player of the Year in 1998, Ainsworth was sold to Premier League club Wimbledon for £2 million.
