2008–09 Peterborough United F.C. Season
The 2008–09 season was Peterborough United's 49th year in the Football League and their first season in League One since the 2004–05 season, having been promoted from League Two in the previous season. Peterborough had a successful league campaign, finishing second, and in doing so, securing promotion to the Championship. Along with League One, the club also participated in the FA Cup, League Cup and Football League Trophy, in which they were knocked out in the third, first and second rounds respectively. The season covered the period from 1 July 2008 to 30 June 2009. Peterborough United F
Peterborough ( ) is a cathedral city in the City of Peterborough district in the ceremonial county of Cambridgeshire, England. The city is north of London, on the River Nene. As of the 2021 census, Peterborough had a population of 192,178, while the population of the district was 215,673. Human settlement in the area began before the Bronze Age, as can be seen at the Flag Fen archaeological site to the east of the city centre. There is evidence of Roman occupation. The Anglo-Saxon period saw the establishment of a monastery, Medeshamstede, which later became Peterborough Cathedral. In the 19th century, the population grew rapidly after the coming of the railway. The area became known for its brickworks and engineering. After the Second World War, industrial employment fell and growth was limited until Peterborough was designated a new town in the 1960s. EFL League Two
The English Football League Two, simply known as League Two and for sponsorship purposes as Sky Betting & Gaming, Sky Bet League Two, is a professional association football league in England. EFL League Two is the fourth division of the English Football League (EFL) and fourth-highest tier overall in the English football league system, after the Premier League, EFL Championship and the EFL League One and is contested by 24 clubs. Lee Frecklington
Lee Craig Frecklington (born 8 September 1985) is a former professional footballer who played as a midfielder. Frecklington's came through the youth academy at home town club Lincoln City, he spent time on loan with Lincoln United and Stamford before going on to make 127 league appearances, scoring 21 goals. He was part of the Imps team that missed out on promotion to League One during the 2005–06 season. In 2009 he joined Peterborough United, later moving to Rotherham United in 2013 where he scored 26 times in 157 appearances, twice being promoted to the EFL Championship. He returned to Lincoln in 2017 and won the EFL Trophy and the 2019 League Two title. He retired in October 2021 after a brief spell with Non-League side Frickley Athletic. Scott Rendell
Scott David Rendell (born 21 October 1986) is an English footballer who plays as a striker for AFC Totton. Career Early career Rendell was born in Ashford, Surrey, but lived in Basingstoke, Hampshire. He started his career with Staines Albion, where he played until the age of 16. After this, Rendell was signed onto the books of Aldershot Town before joining nearby Reading. Unable to break into the Reading first-team, he was loaned back to Aldershot, and had work experience loans at Forest Green Rovers and Hayes. While at Forest Green, Rendell scored the club's first ever goal as a professional side on the opening day of the 2005–06 season against Cambridge United, who he would later go on to sign for. Chris Westwood
Christopher John Westwood (born 13 February 1977) is an English former professional footballer. Career Wolverhampton Wanderers Westwood began his career at Wolverhampton Wanderers as a youth trainee, making his league debut for Wolves in September 1997. He scored once for the club against Portsmouth in December 1997. He was released by Wolves at the end of the 1997–98 season having made four league appearances for the club. Reading Westwood moved to Reading in 1998 but first team chances at both clubs were limited and in his one season with the Berkshire club he did not make a senior league appearance. Craig Morgan (footballer)
Craig Morgan (born 16 June 1985 in Flint) is a Welsh international footballer who plays as a central defender. After beginning his career with spells at Wrexham, where he helped win the Football League Trophy in 2005, and Milton Keynes Dons, he joined Peterborough United in January 2007 after a short loan spell, helping the club reach the Football League Championship by winning consecutive promotions in the 2007–08 and 2008–09 seasons. He is able to play at both centre-back and left-back. Russell Kenneth Alexander Martin (born 4 January 1986) is a professional football manager and former player who is currently the head coach of Scottish Premiership club Rangers. Born in England, he represented Scotland at international level. A former defender, Martin began his playing career at Brighton & Hove Albion's youth academy. Joe Lewis (footballer, Born 1987)
Joseph Peter Lewis (born 6 October 1987) is an English former professional footballer who played as a goalkeeper. Lewis began his career with Norwich City but did not make a competitive appearance for them, serving loans with Stockport County and Morecambe. In early 2008 he moved to Peterborough United, and was the regular goalkeeper during four seasons in which the club were promoted twice, relegated then promoted again. He lost his place in the team, and in 2012 moved to Cardiff City where he had a backup role and went out on loan to Blackpool and Fulham.
