2008–09 NBB Season
Novo Basquete Brasil (NBB) is the Brazilian basketball league, created in 2008 as the new format to the Campeonato Brasileiro de Basquete. NBB is fully organized by the participating clubs, as an attempt to reorganize and rebuild the Brazilian basketball. The form of dispute follows a similar model adopted by the NBA and European countries. The first edition was disputed by fifteen teams playing each other in the round and second round at the classification stage. At the end of two rounds, the top eight teams qualify for the playoffs in best of five matches, advances to the next phase who win three games. Novo Basquete Brasil (NBB; English: New Basketball Brazil) is the Brazilian premier professional men's basketball league. It is organized by the Liga Nacional de Basquete (LNB; English: National Basketball League), in a new format of Brazil's previous top-tier level basketball competition, the Campeonato Brasileiro de Basquete (Brazilian Basketball Championship). The NBB is managed by the Brazilian basketball associations, which were founding members of the LNB. Format The NBB is the annual basketball league that is promoted by the national Brazilian league (LNB) organizing body, and is endorsed by the Brazilian Basketball Confederation (CFB). Esporte Clube Pinheiros, or Pinheiros Basquete, is a Brazilian professional basketball team that is based in São Paulo, Brazil. The club's name is commonly abbreviated as E.C. Pinheiros, or E.C.P. The full name of the club is Esporte Clube Pinheiros São Paulo (E.C.P.S.P.). It is a part of the multi-sports club, Esporte Clube Pinheiros (E.C.P.) which among other sports, fields a men's professional basketball team. Ginásio Álvaro Vieira Lima is an indoor arena that is located in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The arena has a seating capacity of 2,000 people for volleyball matches, and 3,000 people basketball games. The arena is often referred to as either Ginásio do Tijuca, or Ginásio do Tênis Clube, in reference to the Tijuca, neighborhood that it's located in, and to its Tijuca Tênis Clube, owner. History The arena has been often used as the home arena of Flamengo Basketball, Flamengo, of the Novo Basquete Brasil (NBB), during the regular season and early playoff rounds. Carlos Alexandre Rodrigues do Nascimento (born April 18, 1983), commonly known as Carlos Olivinha, or simply Olivinha, is a Brazilian professional basketball player that currently plays for Flamengo of Novo Basquete Brasil. At , he can play at either the small forward or power forward positions, with power forward being his main position. He was born in Rio de Janeiro. Professional career In the Brazilian League's 2009–10 regular season, Olivinha averaged 20.8 points and 10.4 rebounds per game. National team career Olivinha has also been a member of the senior men's Brazilian national basketball team. Marcus Vinicius Vieira de Souza (born May 31, 1984), commonly known as Marquinhos Vieira, or simply Marquinhos, is a Brazilian professional basketball player. He currently plays with São Paulo FC in the Novo Basquete Brasil (NBB). He also represents the senior Brazilian national team. Vieira was a second round NBA draft choice of the New Orleans/Oklahoma City Hornets, in the 2006 NBA draft, chosen 43rd overall. Minas Tênis Clube, commonly known simply as Minas or the Minas Storm, is a Brazilian basketball club based in Belo Horizonte. It is part of the Minas Tênis Clube multi-sports club.
