2008–09 Maryland Terrapins Men's Basketball Team
The 2008–2009 Maryland Terrapins men's basketball team represented the University of Maryland, College Park, University of Maryland in National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I (NCAA), Division I competition as a member of the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC). The Terrapins qualified for the NCAA tournament for just the second time since the 2003–04 season. Maryland advanced to the second round before being eliminated by second-seeded Memphis. This exceeded expectations for the team, which had been described as a team that was small in stature without any highly touted athletes. Gary Williams
Gary Bruce Williams (born March 4, 1945) is an American university administrator and former college basketball coach. He served as the head coach at the University of Maryland, the Ohio State University, Boston College, and American University. In 2002, he led Maryland to win the NCAA tournament championship. Williams retired after the 2010–11 season. On March 25, 2014, Williams was elected to the National Collegiate Basketball Hall of Fame. In April of the same year, he was also voted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame, making him the first coach in history to be inducted into both institutions in the same year. Sean Mosley (born March 19, 1989) is an American professional basketball player who last played for Hapoel Tel Aviv B.C. of the Israeli Basketball Premier League. High School career While in high school Sean was named Player of the Year by the Baltimore Sun at St. Frances Academy. Sean was also named the 2008 Gatorade Player of the Year in Maryland where he finished his career as the second-leading scorer in Maryland high school basketball with 2,933 points. Landon Milbourne
Landon Milbourne (born June 29, 1987) is an American professional basketball player who last played for Maccabi Ashdod of the Israeli Premier League. He played college basketball at the University of Maryland before playing professionally in France, Greece, Italy, Spain, Puerto Rico and Israel. In basketball, a double-double is a single-game performance in which a player accumulates ten or more in two of the following five statistical categories: points, rebounds, assists, steals, and blocked shots. The first "double" in the term refers to the two (''double'') categories and the second "double" refers to accumulating ten or more (typically ''double'' digits) in that category. Overtime (OT) or extra time (ET) is an additional period of play to bring a game to a decision and avoid declaring the match a tie or draw where the scores are the same. In some sports, this extra period is played only if the game is required to have a clear winner, as in single-elimination tournaments where only one team or players can advance to the next round or win the tournament and replays are not allowed.
