2008–09 Håndboldligaen (men's Handball)
The 2008–09 Danish Handball League season, officially known as Jack & Jones Ligaen for sponsorship reasons was the 73th edition of the Danish Handball League. FCK Håndbold were the defending champions. KIF Kolding won the title, when they beat FCK Håndbold in the finals. AaB Håndbold won the regular season. Ajax København were relegated, when they finished last in the league table. League table The regular season was a double round robin. The 8 best teams qualified for the championship playoff, while the last place was relegated. The rest qualified for the relegation playoff. Regular season Championship Round The championship round was played in two groups of four. The winner of each group advanced to the championship finals. The second place advanced to the third place playoff. Danish Handball League
The Herreligaen (men's league), formerly known as Herrehåndboldligaen (men's handball league), is the men's top Danish professional handball league. The winners of the Herreligaen are recognised as the Danish men's handball champions. The current champions are Aalborg Håndbold. Season The Herreligaen season consists of 14 teams, each playing 26 regular season games. The eight best teams of the regular season advance to further games, where they are divided into two groups of four teams each. No. 1 and 2 from the regular season start with 2 points. No. 3 and 4 start with 1 point, while no. 5-8 start with no points. After these six games the two top teams in each group will play semifinals. No. 1 from one group is up against no. 2 from the other. The winners will meet in finals, while the losers will play against each other for the bronze medal. Skjern Handball () is a team handball, handball club from Skjern, Denmark. Currently, Skjern Handball competes in the Danish Handball League, which they have won twice, in 1999 and in 2018. They have also achieved international success, by winning the EHF Challenge Cup twice, in 2002 and 2003. The home arena of Skjern Håndbold is Skjern Bank Arena. This handball club has developed several professional handball players such as Kasper Søndergaard, Jesper Jensen (handballer), Jesper Jensen, and Claus Møller Jakobsen. History The club was founded in 1992 as a merger between Skjern Gymnastikforening af 1916 and Skjern KFUM og KFUK's Idrætsforening to promote handball in Western Jutland. The club started in the third tier, the 2nd Division. Handball Competitions In Denmark
Handball (also known as team handball, European handball, Olympic handball or indoor handball) is a team sport in which two teams of seven players each (six outcourt players and a Handball goalkeeper, goalkeeper) pass a ball using their hands with the aim of throwing it into the goal of the opposing team. A standard match consists of two periods of 30 minutes, and the team that scores more goals wins. Modern handball is played on a court of , with a goal in the middle of each end. The goals are surrounded by a zone where only the defending goalkeeper is allowed; goals must be scored by throwing the ball from outside the zone or while "diving" into it.
