Geraint Howell Thomas, ( , ; born 25 May 1986) is a Welsh professional racing cyclist who rides for UCI WorldTeam , Wales and Great Britain. He is one of the few riders in the modern era to achieve significant elite success as both a track and road rider, with notable victories in the velodrome, in one-day racing and in stage racing. On the track, he has won three World Championships ( 2007, 2008, and 2012), and two Olympic gold medals ( 2008 and 2012), while on the road he won the 2018 Tour de France becoming the first Welshman and third British rider to win it. Jennie Idell Reed (born April 20, 1978) is a World and U.S. champion track cyclist and Olympian (2004, 2008, 2012). Jennie began track cycling at the age of 16 in Redmond, Washington. She won National titles in the match sprint and individual pursuit at her first U.S. Track Cycling National Championship in 1994. She went on to compete in the sprint disciplines at the 2004 and 2008 Olympics and the Team Pursuit in 2012. Jennie competed in 13 World Championships, 11 consecutively. She won 25 World Cup medals between the Sprint events (Sprint & Keirin) as well as the endurance events (Scratch & Team Pursuit). 2008 UCI Track Cycling World Championships – Women's Sprint
The Women's Sprint was one of the eight women's events at the 2008 UCI Track Cycling World Championships, held in Manchester, United Kingdom. 28 cyclists from 18 countries were due to participate in the contest, but two riders did not start. After the qualifying heats, the fastest 24 riders were to advance to the 1/16 finals, therefore all riders who contested the qualification advanced to the next round. The first rider in each of the 12 heats advanced to the second round. There was no repechage for this round. The first rider from each of the six Second Round heats advanced to the Quarterfinals and the second placed riders from a repechage to determine the other two riders that competed in the quarterfinals.
