2008 Wimbledon Championships – Men's Singles
Rafael Nadal defeated five-time defending champion Roger Federer in the final, 6–4, 6–4, 6–7(5–7), 6–7(8–10), 9–7 to win the gentlemen's singles tennis title at the 2008 Wimbledon Championships. It was his fifth major title, and his first outside of the French Open. The final marked the third consecutive Wimbledon final between Nadal and Federer, with Federer winning the two prior encounters. It was the first time Federer lost a major final outside the French Open, and would be his only loss at Wimbledon between 2003 and 2009. Nadal's victory ended Federer's record 65-match winning streak on grass. It was the second-longest championship match in Wimbledon history with play lasting 4 hours and 48 minutes, and with two rain delays. Andrew Stephen Roddick (born August 30, 1982) is an American former professional tennis player. He was ranked as the world No. 1 in men's singles by the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) for 13 weeks, including as the year-end No. 1 in 2003. Roddick won 32 ATP Tour-level singles titles, including a major at the 2003 US Open and five Masters events, and led the United States to the 2007 Davis Cup title. Nicolás Almagro Sánchez (; born 21 August 1985 in Murcia, Spain) is a Spanish former professional tennis player of Latin American descent. His height of 211 cm (6 ft 11 in) makes him the joint-tallest ranked tennis player in history (along with Reilly Opelka). He won eight ATP Tour singles titles between 2007 and 2016. Radek Štěpánek (; born 27 November 1978) is a Czech former professional tennis player. His career-high singles ranking was world No. 8 and best doubles ranking was world No. 4.
