2008 Oceania Women's Sevens Championship
The 2008 Oceania Women's Sevens Championship was the inaugural tournament for the Oceania Women's Sevens Championship and was held in Samoa from 25 to 26 July. The tournament was a regional qualifier for the 2009 Rugby World Cup Sevens. Australia won the tournament and New Zealand were runners-up. They made history by qualifying for the first ever Rugby World Cup Sevens women's competition. 2012 Oceania Women's Sevens Championship
The 2012 Oceania Women's Sevens Championship was the second edition of the Oceania Women's Sevens Championship and also doubled as a qualifier for the 2013 Rugby World Cup Sevens. It was held from 3–4 August 2012 in Churchill Park, Lautoka, Fiji. Since Australia and New Zealand had already qualified for the World Cup. Fiji as the other highest placing team qualified for the Asia/Oceania final qualifier in Pune, India. 2009 Rugby World Cup Sevens
The 2009 Rugby Sevens World Cup was the fifth edition of the Rugby World Cup Sevens. The International Rugby Board (IRB) selected Dubai in the United Arab Emirates as the host venue for the tournament ahead of bids from four other countries. The format included nine direct qualifiers and a further fifteen qualifiers from all six regions defined by the IRB. A women's version of the world cup was also held alongside the men's tournament for the first time and featured sixteen teams. The men's cup was won by Wales, with the women's cup going to Australia. The men's teams of Fiji, New Zealand and Australia, who entered the semi-finals in the two previous editions, failed to do so in 2009: the former were defeated by quarter-finals Kenya and Wales respectively, whereas Australia lost two of the three matches in the pool stage and did not advance to quarter-finals. Rugby World Cup Sevens
Rugby World Cup Sevens (RWCS) is the quadrennial world championship of rugby sevens, a variant of rugby union. Organised by World Rugby, it currently consists of men's and women's tournaments, and is the highest level of competition in the sport outside of the Summer Olympics. The first tournament was held in 1993 in Scotland, and was won by England. The winners of the men's tournament are awarded the Melrose Cup, named after the Scottish town of Melrose where the first rugby sevens game was played. A women's tournament was introduced at the 2009 Rugby World Cup Sevens in Dubai, and was first won by Australia.
