2008 European Cup (athletics)
The 29th and final SPAR European Cup took place in June 2008. Track and field events were held on 21 and 22 June 2008 at the Parc des Sports Stadium in Annecy, France. Other event venues included Estádio Dr. Magalhães Pessoa in Portugal and facilities in Istanbul, Turkey (for First League track and field events), Kadriorg Stadium in Estonia and SNP Stadium in Slovakia (for Second League track and field events), and facilities in Eindhoven, Netherlands (for diving and other water sports events). The Parc des Sports Annecy Stadium was also stadium for 1998 World Junior Championships in Athletics. It was the last edition of the European Cup which from 2009 has been replaced by European Team Championships combining the men and women competitions. Annecy
Annecy ( , ; , also ) is the Prefectures in France, prefecture and List of communes in France with over 20,000 inhabitants, largest city of the Haute-Savoie Departments of France, department in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes Regions of France, region of Southeastern France. It lies on the northern tip of Lake Annecy, south of Geneva, Switzerland. Alexander Kosenkow
Alexander Kosenkow (; born 14 March 1977) is a German sprinter who specialises in the 100 metres. He represents the sports club TV Wattenscheid. Biography Kosenkow was born in Tokmok, Kirghiz Soviet Socialist Republic, Kirghiz SSR, but represented Germany at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing. In 1991, Alexander Kosenkow, whose mother is a Kyrgyz-German, came to Germany as an emigrant and found a new home in Neuenkirchen-Vörden. He competed at the 4 × 100 metres relay together with Tobias Unger, Till Helmke and Martin Keller (athlete), Martin Keller. In their qualification heat they placed third behind Jamaica and Canada, but in front of China. Their time of 38.93 was the sixth fastest out of sixteen participating nations in the first round and they qualified for the final. Jesús España Cobo (born 21 August 1978 in Valdemoro, Community of Madrid) is a Spanish long-distance runner, who mostly concentrates on the 3000 and 5000 metres. España first represented Spain at the 2001 IAAF World Cross Country Championships, where he was 11th in the short race. He won his first medal the following year at the 2002 European Athletics Indoor Championships, taking the bronze medal over 3000 m. Outdoors, he came eleventh in the 5000 m at the 2002 European Athletics Championships. Andrew James Baddeley (born 20 June 1982) is an English middle-distance runner. Career He finished sixth in the 1500 metres final at the 2006 European Athletics Championships in Gothenburg. He also competed at the 2006 Commonwealth Games, and has a silver medal from the 2005 Summer Universiade. He finished second in the 1500 metres final at the European Cup in Athletics 2007 in Munich, with a time of 3:48.08 minutes. Carsten Schlangen (born 31 December 1980) is a German middle distance runner who specialises in the 1500 metres. Born in Meppen, West Germany, his first major competition was the 2006 European Athletics Championships where he finished tenth in the heats of the 1500 m. He competed at the Internationales Stadionfest in 2006 – his first IAAF Golden League meeting. Mehdi Baala (; born 17 August 1978 in Strasbourg) is a French middle-distance runner competing mainly in the 1500 metres event.
