2007–08 Big Ten Conference Men's Basketball Season
The 2007–08 Big Ten Conference men's basketball season began with practices in October, 2007 followed by the 2007–08 NCAA Division I men's basketball season in November. The conference season began in January, 2008 and concluded in March. The season marked the 103rd season of Big Ten play. Wisconsin won the Big Ten Conference regular season championship by one game over Purdue. Indiana finished in third with Michigan State in fourth. Indiana's D.J. White was named Big Ten Player of the Year. Purdue's Matt Painter was named Coach of the Year. The Big Ten tournament was held from March 13–16, 2008 at Conseco Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, Indiana. The Big Ten Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Year is an award given to the Big Ten Conference's most outstanding player. The award was first given following the 1984–85 season. 2007–08 Wake Forest Demon Deacons Men's Basketball Team
The 2007–08 Wake Forest Demon Deacons men's basketball team represented Wake Forest University in the 2007–08 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The Demon Deacons, led by first-year head coach Dino Gaudio, played their games at Lawrence Joel Veterans Memorial Coliseum, and were members of the Atlantic Coast Conference. ACC–Big Ten Challenge
The ACC–Big Ten Challenge (or Big Ten–ACC Challenge as it was called in alternating years) was an in-season NCAA Division I men's college basketball series that matched up teams from the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) and the Big Ten Conference (B1G). ESPN was a key part of the creation of the challenge and held the broadcast rights to all the games. The ACC–Big Ten Challenge occurred early in the non-conference season, typically around late November/early December. Each game was hosted by one of the participating schools, with teams typically alternating home and away status in each successive year. Played yearly from 1999 to 2022, the ACC held a record of 13–8–3 in the series and 152–127 in games. The ACC won the first 10 consecutive challenges, but only two of the next 13 challenges. Jamar Butler
Jamar Butler (born September 27, 1985) is a basketball point guard. His career started at Shawnee High School in Lima, Ohio, where he was named Ohio's Mr. Basketball his senior year. Butler was then recruited by both the University of Cincinnati and Ohio State University. Jamar chose Ohio State, where he broke multiple school records while majoring in African American and African Studies. Early career Butler attended Shawnee High School in Lima, Ohio, and scored a total of 2,412 points throughout his high school career. He placed tenth on Ohio's all-time scoring list. In his senior year, Butler averaged 31.6 points a game, 8.3 assists, 5.8 rebounds, and 2.6 steals a game, and he was named Ohio's Mr. Basketball of 2004. Drew Neitzel (born May 7, 1985) is an American former professional basketball player. Basketball career High school Neitzel attended Wyoming Park High School in Wyoming, Michigan. He holds the school career records for points (2,462) and assists (692), while ranking second in the state in assists and sixth in scoring. Shaun Steven Pruitt (born November 22, 1985) is an American former professional basketball player. He played college basketball for the University of Illinois before going undrafted in the 2008 NBA draft. 2008 National Invitation Tournament
The 2008 National Invitation Tournament (known through sponsorship as the MasterCard NIT) was a single-elimination tournament of 32 National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I teams that did not participate in the 2008 NCAA Division I men's basketball tournament. The 71st annual tournament began on March 18 on campus sites and ended on April 3 at Madison Square Garden in New York City. Each regular season conference champion that did not receive a bid to the NCAA Tournament received an automatic bid to this tournament. The remaining slots were filled by the NIT Selection Committee. The 2007–08 Ohio State Buckeyes men's basketball team represented Ohio State University in the 2007–08 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The team was led by fourth-year head coach Thad Matta, and played their home games at the Value City Arena, in Columbus, Ohio as members of the Big Ten Conference. They finished in fifth place in the Big Ten, squarely on the NCAA tournament bubble. The 2008 NCAA Division I men's basketball tournament involved 65 teams playing in a single-elimination tournament that determined the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I men's basketball national champion for the 2007–08 season.
