2007 World Championships In Athletics – Women's Hammer Throw
The Women's Hammer Throw event at the 2007 World Championships in Athletics took place on August 28, 2007 (qualification) and August 30, 2007 (final) at the Nagai Stadium in Osaka, Japan. The qualification standard was set at 71.00 metres. The winning margin was 2 cm. As of 2024, this remains the only time the women's hammer throw was won by less than 4 cm at these championships. The hammer throw (HT for short) is one of the four throwing events in regular outdoor track-and-field competitions, along with the discus throw, shot put and Javelin throw, javelin. The hammer used in this sport is not like any of the tools also called by that name. It consists of a metal ball attached by a steel wire to a grip. These three components are each separate and can move independently. Both the size and weight of the ball vary between men's and women's events. The women's hammer weighs for college and professional meets while the men's hammer weighs . Jennifer Dahlgren Fitzner (born 21 April 1984) is a retired Argentine hammer thrower. Having spent much of her life in the United States, she competed as an amateur for the University of Georgia. She set the US collegiate hammer record and was the NCAA Outdoor champion in both 2006 and 2007. She is a three-time gold medallist at the South American Championships and won the bronze medal at the 2007 Pan American Games. Dahlgren has represented Argentina at the 2004 and 2008 Summer Olympics, as well as having competed at the World Championships in Athletics on three occasions. She first broke the South American record in the discipline in 2004 and has raised it several metres to her current best of 73.74 m. Sviatlana Sudak (; born 20 March 1971) is a Turkish female hammer thrower of Belarusian origin. She was born in Grodno, Belarus. Career Belarus On 5 June 1994, she set a new world record with 67.34 metres. Her international breakthrough came following her world record breaking throw of 77.26 metres from 12 June 2006 in Tula.
