Shingo Kunieda
is a Japanese former wheelchair tennis player. With four Paralympic gold medals, 28 major singles titles – an all-time record in singles of any tennis discipline – and 50 major titles overall, Kunieda is widely considered the greatest male wheelchair player of all time. Kunieda was the ITF World Champion from 2007 to 2010. He was also the year-end No. 1 in doubles in 2007. In 2007, 2009, 2010, 2014, and 2015, Kunieda won all three singles majors that hosted wheelchair singles events (Wimbledon did not do so until 2016). In 2007 and 2008, Kunieda also won three of the four Masters series events. Kunieda is the only male player to retain the men's singles title at the Paralympics – he took the gold medal in 2008, 2012 and 2020. Satoshi Saida
is a Japanese pioneering wheelchair tennis player and 2004 Summer Paralympics gold medalist ( Men's doubles with Shingo Kunieda). Saida, a big baseball enthusiast in his childhood, lost his left leg because of bone cancer at age twelve. At first, he used to play wheelchair basketball with his friends. Saida started his career in wheelchair tennis when he was fourteen years old. A former world No. 1 in both singles and doubles, Ammerlaan is a 14-time major champion and two-time Paralympic gold medalist. Jon Rydberg
Jon Rydberg (born October 7, 1977) is a former American wheelchair tennis and wheelchair basketball player. Biography Rydberg was born in Grantsburg, Wisconsin and raised in Pine City, Minnesota. He became physically disabled when his family pickup truck rolled on top of him at one year old. He played tennis since 1988 but was only able to play in exhibition matches in 1992 due to the United States Tennis Association rules at the time. Rydberg was also an accomplished wheelchair basketball player. He began playing wheelchair basketball since grade 8 and earned a full sports scholarship from University of Texas-Arlington. Stéphane Houdet
Stéphane Houdet (born 20 November 1970) is a French wheelchair tennis player. Houdet is a former singles and doubles world number one. In 2014, he became the first man in history to complete the calendar-year Grand Slam in men's wheelchair doubles. He competed in wheelchair tennis at the 2020 Summer Paralympics. Ronald Vink (born 21 April 1976) is a professional wheelchair tennis player from the Netherlands. He specializes in doubles but also plays singles. Grand Slam performances Vink has reached grand slam wheelchair doubles finals, capturing his first title at the 2007 Wimbledon Championships with compatriot Robin Ammerlaan.
