The 2007 Southland Conference men's basketball tournament took place March 8–11, 2007, at the Campbell Center in Houston, Texas. Format The top eight eligible men's basketball teams in the Southland Conference receive a berth in the conference tournament. After the conference season, teams are seeded by conference record. Bracket Championship game Texas A&M-Corpus Christi defeated Northwestern State, 81–78 and never trailed in the game. They got 19 points from tournament MVP Chris Daniels. Daniels, the conference player of the year, was 7-for-8 despite being double- and sometimes triple-teamed. Corpus Christi led by eight at halftime. It was 79–78 with five seconds remaining, and Northwestern State was forced to foul. Josh Ervin made two free throws to put Corpus Christi up three. Campbell Center
The M.O. Campbell Educational Center is an indoor arena in Houston, Texas. The facility serves as the home basketball and volleyball court for the five high schools in the Aldine Independent School District, Aldine Independent School District (AISD). The Campbell Center is also used for graduations, theatrical performances, meetings, conferences, banquets and community events. The arena seats 7,000 people and is located on Farm to Market Road 525, Aldine-Bender Road just south of Beltway 8, a short distance from George Bush Intercontinental Airport and Greenspoint Mall. 2006–07 Texas A&M–Corpus Christi Islanders Men's Basketball Team
The 2006–07 Texas A&M–Corpus Christi Islanders men's basketball team represented Texas A&M University–Corpus Christi in the 2006–07 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The Islanders, led by eighth-year head coach Ronnie Arrow, competed as members of the Southland Conference. They played most of their home games at American Bank Center in Corpus Christi, Texas. They finished the season 26–7, 14–2 in Southland play to atop the conference standings. As the No. 1 seed, they defeated Southeastern Louisiana, McNeese State, and Northwestern State to win the Southland tournament. They received the conference’s automatic bid to the NCAA tournament as the No. 15 seed in the Midwest Region, where they lost in the opening round to Wisconsin. Ronnie Arrow
Ronnie Lee Arrow (born August 28, 1947) is an American former college basketball coach who was most recently the head coach at the University of South Alabama. Playing career Arrow was a two-year All-Lone Star Conference honoree and a three-year letterman at Southwest Texas State (presently named Texas State). He graduated with a bachelor's degree in health and physical education in 1969. Coaching career San Jacinto Arrow served as head coach at San Jacinto College in Pasadena, Texas from 1977 to 1987 where he tallied a record of 302–43 and guided the Ravens to 10 Texas Junior College Athletic Conference titles as well as NJCAA championships in 1983, 1984 and 1986. He was named the NJCAA Region XIV Coach-of-the-Year in 1983, 1984, 1986, 1987 and the national Coach-of-the-Year in 1983 and 1986. Robert Christopher Daniels (born April 19, 1984) is an American professional basketball player. He played college basketball for Texas A&M–Corpus Christi before starting his professional career in 2008. College career As a four-year player in Texas A&M–Corpus Christi, he played in 114 games, starting 73 where he averaged 12.3 points, 6 rebounds and 1.5 blocks in 22.9 minutes per game being named Southland Player of the Year and to the All-Southland first-team in his junior season when he averaged 15.3 points, 6.7 rebounds and 1.6 blocks leading the Islanders to their first NCAA tournament in history. Southland Conference
The Southland Conference (SLC) is a collegiate athletic conference which operates in the South Central United States (specifically Texas and Louisiana). It participates in the NCAA's Division I for all sports; for football, it participates in the Division I Football Championship Subdivision (FCS). The Southland sponsors 18 sports, 10 for women and eight for men, and is governed by a presidential Board of Directors and an Advisory Council of athletic and academic administrators. Chris Grant became the Southland's seventh commissioner on April 5, 2022. From 1996 to 2002, for football only, the Southland Conference was known as the Southland Football League. Southland Conference Men's Basketball Tournament
The Southland Conference's men's basketball tournament began in 1981, with the winner of the tournament receiving the conference's automatic bid into the NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Championship. From 1981 to 2001, the first round of the tournament took place at the higher seed, with the remaining rounds at a set location. In 2002, the Southland changed the format to play games at the campus of sites of each higher seed, during every round of the tournament. This was changed again in 2007, the first year that the conference selected a neutral site for all rounds of the tournament.
