2007 Liechtenstein Local Elections
The 2007 Liechtenstein local elections were held on 28 January to elect the municipal councils and the mayors of the eleven municipalities of Liechtenstein. Electoral system The municipal councils (German: ''Gemeinderat'') are composed of an even number of councillors plus the mayor (German: ''Gemeindevorsteher''). The number of councillors is determined by population count: 6 or 8 councillors for population 1,500, 8 or 10 councillors for population between 1,500 and 3,000, and 10 or 12 councillors for population over 3,000. Councillors were elected in single multi-member districts, consisting of the municipality's territory, using an open list proportional representation system. Voting was on the basis of universal suffrage in a secret ballot. The mayors were elected in a two-round system. If none of the candidates achieved a majority in the first round, a second round would have been held four weeks later, where the candidate with a plurality would be elected as a mayor. Mayoral ... Municipalities Of Liechtenstein
The principality of Liechtenstein is divided into eleven municipality, municipalities (', grammatical number, singular '), most consisting of only a single town. Five of the ' fall within the electoral district of (lower country), while the other six are within the (upper country). Triesen
Triesen (; dialectal: ''Tresa'') is the third largest municipality in Liechtenstein. It contains several historic churches dating from the fifteenth century. It also has a weaving mill from 1863 that is considered a historical monument. The population is around 5,275. Geography The municipality includes the highest point of Liechtenstein, the Grauspitz, at above sea level. It is located between Vaduz, Triesenberg and Balzers. The municipality contains Lawena and Valüna. History The settlements of Triesen, as the state archaeologists have found during excavations, were destroyed in natural disasters. The detailed picture of the place Triesen shows that all settlement phases were terminated by the forces of nature. Thomas Zwiefelhofer (born 10 December 1969) is a politician from Liechtenstein who served as List of heads of government of Liechtenstein, Deputy Prime Minister of Liechtenstein from 2013 to 2017, under the government of Adrian Hasler. Mario Wohlwend (born 12 January 1973) is a politician from Liechtenstein who served in the Landtag of Liechtenstein from 2017 to 2025. Life Wohlwend was born 12 January 1973 in Chur as the son of Johann Wohlwend and Margrith Risch as one of five children. He attended secondary school in Eschen. He conducted an apprenticeship as a machine draftsman at Hilti in Schaan from 1989 to 1993, and from 1994 to 2000 he worked at as a project manager at Hofag AG in Schaan. Since 2000 he has worked as a trainer for designers at Hilti and since 2001 he has been an examination expert for intermediate and final apprenticeship examinations as a designer. Dietmar Lampert (born 13 October 1966) is a politician from Liechtenstein who served in the Landtag of Liechtenstein from 2021 to 2025. He has also served as mayor of Schellenberg since 2023. Doris Frick (born 28 November 1963) is a diplomat from Liechtenstein who has served as the ambassador to Switzerland since 2013. The Free List (, FL) is a centre-left to left-wing political party in Liechtenstein. As of 2025, it has two seats in the Landtag of Liechtenstein and is represented in five of the eleven local councils. It was founded in 1985 and described itself as social-democratic and green. History The Free List ran for the first time in the 1986 state elections. In this election, and also in the 1989 election, it was unable to overcome the threshold clause.
