2006–07 Maryland Terrapins Men's Basketball Team
The 2006–07 Maryland Terrapins men's basketball team represented the University of Maryland, College Park, University of Maryland in the 2006–07 college basketball season as a member of the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC). The team was led by 18th-year head coach Gary Williams. Gary Williams
Gary Bruce Williams (born March 4, 1945) is an American university administrator and former college basketball coach. He served as the head coach at the University of Maryland, the Ohio State University, Boston College, and American University. In 2002, he led Maryland to win the NCAA tournament championship. Williams retired after the 2010–11 season. On March 25, 2014, Williams was elected to the National Collegiate Basketball Hall of Fame. In April of the same year, he was also voted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame, making him the first coach in history to be inducted into both institutions in the same year. Playing career Williams played for Maryland as the starting point guard under coach Bud Millikan. ACC–Big Ten Challenge
The ACC–Big Ten Challenge (or Big Ten–ACC Challenge as it was called in alternating years) was an in-season NCAA Division I men's college basketball series that matched up teams from the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) and the Big Ten Conference (B1G). ESPN was a key part of the creation of the challenge and held the broadcast rights to all the games. The ACC–Big Ten Challenge occurred early in the non-conference season, typically around late November/early December. Each game was hosted by one of the participating schools, with teams typically alternating home and away status in each successive year. Played yearly from 1999 to 2022, the ACC held a record of 13–8–3 in the series and 152–127 in games. The ACC won the first 10 consecutive challenges, but only two of the next 13 challenges. The 2006–07 Winthrop Eagles men's basketball team represented Winthrop University during the 2006–07 college basketball season. This was head coach Gregg Marshall's ninth and final season at Winthrop. The Eagles competed in the Big South Conference and played their home games at Winthrop Coliseum.
