The 2006 Texas Senate election was held on Tuesday, November 7, 2006. Fifteen of the sixteen elections for the Texas Senate were contested to some extent. The winners of this election served in the 80th Texas Legislature. Five Senators chose to not run or were defeated in the primaries. Robert Nichols (Texas Politician)
Robert Lee Nichols (born November 25, 1944) is an American politician who represents the Texas Senate, District 3, 3rd District of the Texas Senate. A Republican Party (United States), Republican, he was the President of the Senate, senate president ''pro tempore'' of the 85th legislative session. Early years Nichols graduated in 1968 from Lamar University in Beaumont, Texas, with a degree in industrial engineering. He had a career as a small businessman before being elected mayor of Jacksonville, Texas, and served as mayor 1985-1989. Public service During his tenure as mayor, Nichols streamlined the city government and helped to cut property tax rates. His service as Mayor eventually convinced then-Governor of Texas George W. Bush to appoint him to a six-year term on the Texas Transportation Commission in 1997. Bob Deuell
Robert Franklin Deuell, known as Bob Deuell (born 11 March 1950), is a physician from Greenville, Texas, and a former Republican member of the Texas Senate. He entered office in 2003 and represented the ten counties of Senate District 2 in the northeastern portion of the state. His term ended in 2015. Deuell was narrowly unseated in the runoff election held on May 27, 2014; he polled 17,930 (49.6 percent) to intraparty challenger Bob Hall's 18,230 (50.4 percent). Deuell had led a three-candidate field in the primary on March 4, with 23,847 votes (48.5 percent). Because he fell short of a majority, he was placed in the runoff with the number-two candidate, Bob Hall, who in the primary polled 19,085 votes (38.8 percent). Kevin Eltife
Kevin Paul Eltife (born March 1, 1959) is an American businessman and former politician from Tyler, Texas. A Republican, served in the Texas Senate from 2004 through 2017. He was sworn in on August 15, 2004, after winning a special election to represent District 1. He declined to seek re-election in 2016 and was succeeded in office by fellow Republican Bryan Hughes. Early life and education Eltife was born in Tyler, Texas, and grew up there. He is a Lebanese American; all of his grandparents immigrated to the United States from Lebanon.
