2006 European Athletics Championships – Women's Heptathlon
The women's heptathlon at the 2006 European Athletics Championships were held at the Ullevi on August 7 and August 8. Biggest drama occurred on the first day as Eunice Barber, who was leading after high jump, had to stop because of injury. After that no one could challenge Klüft, who took first gold medal for hosts. Battle for silver was exciting to the end. Schwarzkopf was better than Ruckstuhl in 800 metres, but not enough. The 19th European Athletics Championships were held in Gothenburg, Sweden, between 7 August and 13 August 2006. The competition arena was the Ullevi Stadium and the official motto "Catch the Spirit". Gothenburg also hosted the 1995 World Championships in Athletics, and Stockholm, Sweden's capital, hosted 1958 European Athletics Championships. Ida Antoinette Nana Djimou (born 2 August 1985 in Douala, Cameroon) is a Cameroonian-French heptathlete and pentathlete. She has won two European Athletics Championships heptathlon gold medals (in 2012 and 2014) and two European Athletics Indoor Championships pentathlon gold medals (in 2011 and 2013). Lyudmyla Leonidivna Blonska, née Shevchuk (), sometimes known as Lyudmila Blonskaya, (born November 9, 1977) is a Ukrainian former heptathlete, pentathlete, and long jumper. She was given a lifetime ban from competition after failing a drug test at the 2008 Summer Olympics, her second doping offense. Personal life Blonska was born as Lyudmyla Leonidivna Shevchuk on 9 November 1977 in Simferopol, Crimea, Ukrainian SSR. In 2000, she graduated from the Kharkiv Institute as a trainer and teacher of physical culture. She then moved to Brovary with fellow athlete Serhiy Blonskyy, whom she married. They have two children: Iryna (born 15 May 2001) and Oleksandr (born 23 June 2004). Career Blonska practiced rhythmic gymnastics from age five to ten.
