2006 Arizona Elections
The Arizona state elections of 2006 were held on November 7, 2006. All election results are from the Arizona Secretary of State's office. The deadline for signing petition signatures to appear on the primary ballot for all races was June 14, 2006. This article does not yet include complete information about the state propositions placed on the ballot, but major propositions for Arizona in 2006 included: * An attempt to add language to the AZ Constitution that would declare a marriage as only between a man and a woman (did not pass; as of 2006, AZ is the only state to reject a same-sex marriage ban proposed to its voters, though an amendment to the state constitution passed in 2008) * Two competing statewide Tobacco smoking, smoking bans—one sponsored by R.J. Bill Montgomery (Arizona Politician)
William Gerard Montgomery (born March 2, 1967) is an American attorney who has been a justice of the Arizona Supreme Court since September 2019. He previously was the County Attorney for Maricopa County, Arizona, from 2010 to 2019. Early life and education Montgomery is a West Point graduate and a Gulf War veteran. Commissioned as a second lieutenant, he served six and a half years of active duty in the United States Army, including as a tank commander in the first Gulf War in Iraq, ending his service as a captain. Career During Montgomery's tenure, the county attorney's office gained national recognition for its Restitution Specialist and Sex Assault Backlog programs. Arizona House Of Representatives
The Arizona House of Representatives is the lower house of the Arizona Legislature, the state legislature (United States), state legislature of the U.S. state of Arizona. Gary Pierce
Gary L. Pierce (born c. 1952) is a former Arizona Corporation Commissioner and a former member of the Arizona House of Representatives. Political career In the House of Representatives, Mr. Pierce served as the Majority Whip (2005–2006). He was a member of the Rules, Environment, and Federal Mandates and Property Rights committees. He had previously served on the Judiciary Committee and others. Prior to his election to the Legislature he was twice elected to the Yuma County Board of Supervisors. Kristin Mayes
Kristin Kay Mayes (born September 6, 1971) is an American attorney, reporter, and politician who is the Arizona Attorney General. A member of the Democratic Party, Mayes was elected in 2022, defeating Republican Abraham Hamadeh by a margin of just 280 votes in one of the closest elections in the state's history. Previously Mayes was a Professor of Practice at Sandra Day O'Connor College of Law and Chair of the Arizona Corporation Commission. Mayes is the second woman elected Arizona Attorney General (after Janet Napolitano), the third openly lesbian woman elected attorney general of a state in the United States (after Maura Healey and Dana Nessel), and the second openly LGBT person elected to statewide office in Arizona (after Kyrsten Sinema). A write-in candidate is a candidate whose name does not appear on the ballot but seeks election by asking voters to cast a vote for the candidate by physically writing in the person's name on the ballot.
