2005–06 Queensland Roar FC Season
The 2005–06 Queensland Roar season would mark the first season for the Hyundai A-League. Queensland Lions withdrew their first team from the QLD State League and entered it in the new fledgling competition as ‘The Roar’ having been accepted by Football Federation Australia to take part as the sole representative for Queensland after no other club was able to raise the required funds to participate. The Queensland Roar were previously playing in the Brisbane Premier League under the name Queensland Lions. 2005–06 season The Queensland Roar made their A-League debut against the now-defunct New Zealand Knights, in a 2–0 win in front of over twenty thousand fans at their home ground of Suncorp Stadium. Queensland Roar FC
Brisbane Roar Football Club is a professional soccer club based in Brisbane, Queensland. competing in Australia's premier men's competition, A-League Men, which is the top tier Australia's football pyramid. When Queensland Lions F.C. were the only Queensland bidder for the new A League competition following the Crawford Report and the new FFA under Frank Lowy, Lions withdrew their men's team from the State Competition and entered it in to the A League. Initially competed under the name Queensland Roar before rebranding in 2009 to Brisbane Roar. Karl Dodd
Karl Dodd (born 13 November 1980, in Southport, Queensland, Australia) is an Australian former professional soccer player, who is currently head coach at NPL Queensland club Brisbane Roar Youth. Club career He played for the Brisbane Strikers before being recruited by the Queensland Roar for the revamped A-League competition. After half a season with the Queensland Roar he signed for Romanian club FC Universitatea Craiova in January 2006. However, after failing to settle with the club he quickly moved on, joining Falkirk on a short-term contract in March 2006. Matt McKay
Matthew Graham McKay (born 11 January 1983) is a retired Australian professional footballer who last played for Australian A-League club Brisbane Roar, and previously with the Australian national team. McKay currently holds the club's record for league appearances, 272. McKay played for Brisbane Roar since their first season in the A-League, and was their club captain up until the 2010–11 season, in which he led Brisbane to their first ever A-League championship and premiership. Following this triumphant victory McKay sought a new challenge in the first division of the Scottish Premiership with Rangers. David Williams (Australian Association Footballer)
David Joel Williams (born 26 February 1988) is an Australian professional football player who plays as a forward for Perth Glory. Williams is the first Indigenous Australian player to play for A-League club Melbourne City. He also represented Australia's national team twice. Born in Brisbane, Williams played youth football at the Queensland Academy of Sport before making his professional debut for Queensland Roar. Tyler Simpson
Tyler John Simpson (28 August 198526 May 2011) was an Australian football (soccer) player who played as a central defender or right back. He was the twin of fellow footballer Jordan Simpson. Career Simpson played in the NSW Premier League with Blacktown City Demons, APIA Leichhardt and Sydney Olympic. He had short stints in the A-League with Perth Glory and then-Queensland Roar. Simpson also played for a short time in Armenia with Dinamo-Zenit Yerevan. It was a shock to many fans and supporters of football in Australia when his death, which was later disclosed to be suicide, was announced on 26 May 2011. Royce Brownlie (born 28 January 1980) is an Australian footballer who plays as a striker for NPL Queensland club Moreton Bay United Club career Royce Brownlie was born in Coffs Harbour, New South Wales and began his football career at the Queensland Academy of Sport, representing them in the National Youth League in the 1996–97 and 1997–98 seasons. Michael William Baird (born 1 August 1983 in Brisbane, Australia) is an Australian soccer player striker. Michael has played in both the National Soccer League (NSL) and the A-League, spending time at clubs in New South Wales and Queensland. Massimo Murdocca
Massimo Murdocca (born 2 September 1984) is an Australian retired professional soccer player who last played as a right or central midfielder for National Premier Leagues club Nunawading City FC. Club career Before joining Brisbane Roar, Murdocca played for South Melbourne and Carlton SC in the now defunct National Soccer League, and for Fawkner Blues in the Victorian Premier League. Shin Tae-yong (; born 11 October 1970) is a South Korean football manager and former professional player who most recently managed the Indonesian national team from 2020 until 2025.
