2005–06 A-League
The 2005–06 A-League was the 29th season of top-flight soccer in Australia, and the inaugural season of the A-League. After over 12 months without a national professional club competition since the close of the 2003–04 National Soccer League season, the first match in the A-League was played on 26 August 2005. The competition was made up of a triple round robin league stage before a championship playoff featuring the top four teams. Of the eight participants, four came from the National Soccer League (1977–2004): Perth Glory (established 1995), New Zealand Knights (1999), Newcastle Jets (2000) and Adelaide United (2003). New Zealand Knights had previously entered the NSL as the ''Auckland Football Kingz'', but were significantly restructured and have a vastly different playing roster. A-League
A-League Men, also known as the Isuzu UTE A-League for sponsorship reasons, is a professional soccer league in Australia and New Zealand and the highest level of the Australian soccer league system. Established in 2004 as the A-League by the Australian Soccer Association (ASA) as a successor to the National Soccer League (NSL), competition commenced in August 2005. Administered by Australian Professional Leagues (APL), it is contested by thirteen teams; eleven based in Australia with two in New Zealand. Seasons run from October to May and include a 27-round regular season followed by a finals series playoff involving the six highest-placed teams, culminating in a grand final match. Winners of the regular season is dubbed the 'Premier' while the winner of the grand final is the season's ''Champion''; differing from other football codes in Australia, where ''premier'' refers to the grand final winner and the winner of the regular season is the ' minor premier'. Perth Glory Football Club is an Australian professional Association football, soccer club based in Perth, Perth, Western Australia. It competes in the country's premier men's competition, A-League Men, under Professional sports league organization#Systems around the world, licence from Australian Professional Leagues. Founded in 1995, Perth Glory is one of three A-League clubs to survive from the now-defunct National Soccer League (Australia), National Soccer League (NSL), playing its debut match in this competition in October 1996 for the 1996–97 National Soccer League, 1996–97 season. Central Coast Stadium
Central Coast Stadium is a sports venue in Gosford, on the Central Coast, New South Wales, Central Coast of New South Wales, Australia. From the establishment of the first venue at the site in 1915 it was known as Waterside Park, being renamed Grahame Park after significant expansion in 1939. Since then it has had several names incorporating that name, but it is called Industree Group Stadium under naming rights. 2006 A-League Grand Final
The 2006 A-League Grand Final, the first edition of the A-League grand final was played between Sydney FC and Central Coast Mariners to decide the champion of the 2005–06 season. The Grand Final took place at Sydney Football Stadium in Sydney on 5 March 2006 after Sydney FC won the ground advantage after defeating Adelaide United in the major semi-final. In the Grand Final, a goal from Steve Corica in the second half secured the premiership for Sydney. As the winners of the Grand Final, Sydney qualified through to the 2007 AFC Champions League joining Adelaide United who were the minor premiers. Queensland Lions Football Club, known as Lions FC, is a soccer club based in Brisbane, Australia. Founded in 1957 as ''Hollandia Inala Soccer Club'', the club currently competes in the National Premier Leagues Queensland.
