The 2005 World Junior Ice Hockey Championships (''2005 WJC'') was held between December 25, 2004, and January 4, 2005, at the Ralph Engelstad Arena in Grand Forks, North Dakota, and at the Ralph Engelstad Arena (Minnesota), Ralph Engelstad Arena in Thief River Falls, Minnesota, United States. Canada won the gold medal. Jim Johannson oversaw administration of the event on behalf of USA Hockey. Ralph Engelstad Arena
Ralph Engelstad Arena (REA), commonly called the Ralph, is an indoor arena located on the campus of the University of North Dakota (UND) in Grand Forks, North Dakota, and serves as the home of UND men's ice hockey. The arena was built by controversial UND alumnus Ralph Engelstad. The North Dakota Fighting Hawks men's hockey team is the tenant. The arena formerly hosted the defunct North Dakota women's hockey team. Facility Ralph Engelstad Arena, which seats 11,643, opened on October 5, 2001, and is located on the UND campus. The REA is home to the UND men's ice hockey team (UND women's ice hockey team discontinued after 2016–17 season), and hosts select games for UND men's and women's basketball. The arena also hosts many non-athletic events including concerts and a yearly circus. Michael Frolík
Michael Frolík (; born 17 February 1988) is a Czech professional ice hockey right winger for Rytíři Kladno in the Czech Extraliga. Frolík has previously played in the National Hockey League (NHL) with the Florida Panthers, the organization that selected him tenth overall in 2006, as well as the Chicago Blackhawks, with whom he won the Stanley Cup in 2013. He also had stints with the Winnipeg Jets, Calgary Flames, Buffalo Sabres and Montreal Canadiens. Roman Wick
Roman Wick (born December 30, 1985) is a Swiss former professional ice hockey player. Wick played for EHC Kloten and ZSC Lions in the National League (NL) and for the Ottawa Senators of the National Hockey League (NHL). He was drafted in the fifth round (156th overall) of the 2004 NHL Entry Draft by the Senators who signed him to a one-year contract in 2010. Internationally, Wick competed as a member of Switzerland's national team in the 2008 and 2009 IIHF World Championships, and at the 2010 and 2014 Winter Olympics. Rob Schremp
Robert B. Schremp (born July 1, 1986) is an American former professional ice hockey center who last played for HK Mogo of the Latvian Hockey Higher League. He was drafted by the Edmonton Oilers in the first round, 25th overall, of the 2004 NHL Entry Draft and has played for the Oilers, New York Islanders and Atlanta Thrashers in the NHL. Schremp was the director of hockey ops for the China Hockey Group out of Hong Kong. Schremp was in charge of the development of 400 players for the 2023-24 season. Dan Fritsche
Daniel J. Fritsche (born July 13, 1985) is a Swiss- American former professional ice hockey forward. He played for Genève-Servette HC, HC Lugano and the ZSC Lions in the National League (NL) and in the National Hockey League (NHL) for the Columbus Blue Jackets, the New York Rangers and the Minnesota Wild. Playing career Fritsche began his junior hockey career with his hometown Cleveland Barons of the North American Hockey League. He then played for the Sarnia Sting and the London Knights, and won a gold medal at the 2004 World Junior Hockey Championship, playing for the United States. Christopher Ray Bourque (born January 29, 1986) is an American former professional ice hockey forward. Originally drafted by the Washington Capitals of the National Hockey League (NHL), he has played 51 NHL games for the Capitals, the Pittsburgh Penguins and the Boston Bruins. Bourque currently serves as a free agent scout for the Toronto Maple Leafs. Sergei Sergeyevich Shirokov (, ; born 10 March 1986) is a Russian professional ice hockey winger currently with Sibir Novosibirsk of the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL). Yakov Nikolayevich Rylov (; born January 15, 1985) is a Russian former professional ice hockey defender who played in the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL). Playing career Rylov joined Metallurg Magnitogorsk, after a second stint with original club HC Dynamo Moscow, as a free agent prior to the 2018–19 season, on 15 July 2018. Jakub Petružálek (born 24 April 1985) is a Czech professional ice hockey center playing for HC Litvínov of the Czech Extraliga (ELH).
