2005 Women's EuroHockey Nations Trophy
The 2005 Women's EuroHockey Nations Trophy was the first edition of the Women's EuroHockey Nations Trophy, the second level of the women's European field hockey championships organized by the European Hockey Federation. It was held from 5 to 11 September 2005 in Baku, Azerbaijan. The hosts Azerbaijan won the first EuroHockey Nations Trophy title and were promoted to the 2007 EuroHockey Championship together with the runners-up Italy. The 2007 Women's EuroHockey Nations Challenge I was the second edition of the Women's EuroHockey Nations Challenge I, the third level of the women's European field hockey championships organized by the European Hockey Federation. The Women's EuroHockey Championship II, formerly known as the Women's EuroHockey Nations Trophy, is a competition for European national field hockey teams. It is the second level of European field hockey Championships for national teams. A penalty shootout is a method used in field hockey to decide which team progresses to the next stage of a tournament (or wins the tournament) following a tied game. Two methods have been used: the original penalty stroke competition is a best-of-five penalty strokes with sudden death if scores were level after five strokes. An alternate penalty shoot-out competition was introduced at major tournaments in 2011.
