2005 Sun Belt Conference Men's Basketball Tournament
The 2005 Sun Belt Conference men's basketball tournament was held March 4–8 at UNT Coliseum in Denton, TX. Second-seed from the West division Louisiana–Lafayette defeated #1 seed from the West division in the championship game, 88–69, to win their fifth Sun Belt men's basketball tournament. The Ragin' Cajuns received an automatic bid to the 2004 NCAA tournament as the #13 seed in the Albuquerque region. No other Sun Belt members earned bids to the tournament. Format All eleven participating Sun Belt members were seeded based on regular season conference records. UNT Coliseum
The UNT Coliseum is a 9,797-seat multi-purpose arena located in Denton, Texas, United States, built in 1973. While the arena's formal name is the UNT Coliseum, the building is more commonly referred to as the Super Pit, a nickname derived from its proximity to the former home of the Mean Green basketball teams, the Ken Bahnsen Gym, nicknamed the ''Snake Pit''. Most signage inside the stadium uses the Super Pit name; the most prominent usage of the UNT Coliseum name is above a single new set of ticket windows added during 2017 renovations. Robert Lee (basketball)
Robert Lawrence Lee (born March 12, 1968) is an American former basketball coach. He served as the head men's basketball coach at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette from 2004 to 2010. Early life and education Born in New Roads, Louisiana, Lee graduated from Catholic High School of Pointe Coupee in New Roads. At Nicholls State University, Lee played under Gordon Stauffer on the Nicholls State Colonels men's basketball team from 1986 to 1990 before becoming a student assistant in the 1990–91 season. As a senior, Lee started all 27 games played and averaged 12.8 points and 2.3 rebounds. Lee completed his bachelor's degree in general studies in May 1991. The Sun Belt Conference men's basketball tournament has been played every year since the formation of the Sun Belt Conference prior to the 1976–77 American collegiate academic year. The winner of the tournament is guaranteed an automatic berth into the NCAA Division I men's basketball tournament. History Format The size and format of the Sun Belt tournament has varied widely since its establishment in 1976. The size of the conference has ranged between a minimum of six teams and as many as thirteen. Nonetheless, the tournament has consistently utilized a simple single-elimination style tournament.
