Paola Suárez was the defending champion of the Canberra International, 2005 Canberra International but did not join the tournament on that year. Ana Ivanovic, a qualifier here won in the final 7–5, 6–1, against Lucky loser Melinda Czink. It was her first ever WTA title and it was achieved just before she made her Grand Slam début at the 2005 Australian Open – Women's Singles, 2005 Australian Open. Ana Ivanovic and Melinda Czink also met in the finals of the qualifying draw here with Ivanovic prevailing 6–1, 6–3. This was the first time two players played each other twice in two finals at a tournament. Ana Schweinsteiger (name at birth, née Ivanovic; born 6 November 1987) is a Serbian former professional tennis player. Anna-Lena Grönefeld
Anna-Lena Grönefeld (also spelled Groenefeld; married name Herzgerodt; born 4 June 1985) is a German former professional tennis player. Competing as a professional from 2003 until 2019, she won one singles title on the WTA Tour, at the 2006 Mexican Open, and reached the quarterfinals of the 2006 French Open. She is a two-time Grand Slam champion in mixed doubles, having won the 2009 Wimbledon Championships alongside Mark Knowles, and the 2014 French Open with Jean-Julien Rojer. Grönefeld also finished runner-up in mixed doubles at the 2016 Wimbledon Championships and 2017 French Open. In women's doubles, Grönefeld won 17 career titles, most notably the 2005 Rogers Cup with Martina Navratilova, and reached seven Grand Slam semifinals. Anne Kremer
Anne Kremer (born 17 October 1975) is a Luxembourgish retired tennis player. She won two singles titles on the WTA Tour. On 29 July 2002, she achieved her best WTA ranking of world No. 18. Kremer completed her schooling at the Athénée de Luxembourg and subsequently studied English and history at Stanford University in California. Kremer is a member of the Democratic and Liberal Youth in Luxembourg, and has entered politics. She ran for the Democratic Party in the 2009 election to the Chamber of Deputies of Luxembourg. Anikó Kapros (born 11 November 1983) is a former professional tennis player from Hungary. She won the junior's singles title at the Australian Open in 2000.
