2005 Queen's Birthday Honours (Australia)
The 2005 Queen's Birthday Honours for Australia were announced on Monday 13 June 2005 by the Governor-General, Michael Jeffery. The Birthday Honours were appointments by some of the 16 Commonwealth realms of Queen Elizabeth II to various orders and honours to reward and highlight good works by citizens of those countries. The Birthday Honours are awarded as part of the Queen's Official Birthday celebrations during the month of June. Iain Ross (judge)
Iain James Kerr Ross is a retired Australia jurist who served as a judge of the Federal Court of Australia from 1 March 2012 to 18 November 2022, as well as President of the Australian Fair Work Commission (formerly Fair Work Australia) during the same period. He previously served as a judge of the Supreme Court of Victoria between 2009 and 2012. Ross was previously an assistant secretary of the Australian Council of Trade Unions, serving under Bill Kelty. In 1994 he was appointed a Vice President of the former Australian Industrial Relations Commission, a role in which he served until 2006. David Ritchie (diplomat)
David James Ritchie (born 20 June 1953) is an Australian diplomat and a senior career officer with the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT). His last appointment was as Ambassador for Australia to Germany, a post to which he was appointed in 2013. Early life Ritchie holds a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) degree from the University of Queensland in German language and literature, which he obtained in 1975. Diplomatic career Ritchie began his diplomatic career with a posting at the Australian embassy in Bonn (West Germany), where he served from 1975–1978, and from 1981-1983 he was posted to the Australian embassy in East Berlin (East Germany). Jocelyn Newman
Jocelyn Margaret Newman (née Mullett; 8 July 1937 – 1 April 2018) was an Australian politician. She was a Senator for Tasmania for 15 years, and a minister in the Howard Government. Political career Jocelyn Margaret Mullett was born in Melbourne, the eldest of three surviving children of Lyndhurst Mullett, a solicitor, and his wife Margaret (née Maughan). She was educated at Mont Albert Central School and Presbyterian Ladies' College. She was a barrister and solicitor before entering Parliament. She married Kevin Newman in 1961. Allan Edward Moss (born 1949) is an Australian businessman, who was the Managing Director/CEO of Macquarie Group Ltd. Moss retired from Macquarie Group in May 2008 after 31 years, including a 15-year stint as the CEO. Prior to this Moss was a director of Hill Samuel Australia and led the team responsible for preparing the submission to the Australian Government to form Macquarie Bank in 1983. Jane Hamilton Mathews (19 December 1940 – 31 August 2019) was a judge of the Supreme Court of New South Wales, a judge of the Federal Court of Australia and President of the Administrative Appeals Tribunal. Early life and education Mathews was born in Wollongong, NSW, the daughter of Frank Mathews, the Chief Engineer of the BHP Steel Works at Port Kembla and went to school at Frensham School in Mittagong. Arthur Lucas (academic)
Arthur Maurice Lucas (born 26 October 1941) is an Australian academic who served as the 18th Principal of King's College London. He was educated at the University of Melbourne where he took BSc and BEd degrees, and subsequently earned his PhD from Ohio State University. He began his academic career at Flinders University where he was a senior demonstrator in biology, prior to a posting as a research associate at Ohio State University. Lucas then returned to Flinders University where he became a senior lecturer, before moving to King's College London where he became professor of science curriculum studies. Donald Anthony Low (22 June 1927 – 12 February 2015), known as Anthony Low or D. A. Low, was a historian of modern South Asia, Africa, the British Commonwealth, and, especially, decolonization. Murray Kellam
Murray Byron Kellam was formerly a judge of the County Court of Victoria in Australia before being appointed as a judge on 28 January 1998 to the Supreme Court of Victoria, the highest ranking court in the Australian State of Victoria. He was also the first President of VCAT. On 16 May 2007 Kellam was appointed a judge of Appeal. He retired from the Supreme Court on 15 June 2009. Graeme John Jameson (born 1936) is an engineer, professor and Director of the Centre for Multiphase Processes at the University of Newcastle, Australia, in New South Wales, Australia. He is notable for being the inventor of the Jameson Cell mineral separation device, which he devised in the 1980s. The Jameson Cell uses bubbles to separate super fine particles during mineral processing. It is based on the froth flotation mineral separation process, first invented in 1905. In the coal industry alone, Jameson's cell has retrieved 36 billion worth of export coal particles. It is being used worldwide in the separation of coal, copper, lead, nickel, platinum, silver and zinc.
