2005 Atlantic Sun Men's Basketball Tournament
The 2005 Atlantic Sun men's basketball tournament was held March 3–5 at the Curb Event Center at Belmont University in Nashville, Tennessee. UCF defeated top-seeded in the championship game, 63–54, to win their fourth (and second consecutive) Atlantic Sun/TAAC men's basketball tournament. The Golden Knights, therefore, received the Atlantic Sun's automatic bid to the 2005 NCAA tournament. Format With the Atlantic Sun's membership remaining stable at eleven teams, no changes were made to the tournament format. As such, only the top eight teams from the conference tournament were eligible for the tournament. These eight teams were seeded based on regular season conference records and were all entered into the quarterfinal round. Curb Event Center
The Curb Event Center is a multipurpose arena on the campus of Belmont University in Nashville, Tennessee. Named in honor of its prime donor, music executive and former lieutenant governor of California Mike Curb, the arena was completed in 2003, replacing the former Striplin Gym. It is the home venue of Belmont's men's and women's basketball and volleyball teams and hosted the 2004 and 2005 Atlantic Sun Conference men's basketball tournaments. In June 2004 it hosted some of the junior and preliminary events of the U.S.Gymnastics Championships. Kirk Speraw
Kirk Crittendon Speraw (born August 21, 1956) is an American former basketball coach who was most recently an assistant basketball coach at the University of Iowa. Speraw previously served as the head coach for the men's basketball team at University of Central Florida (UCF) from 1993 to 2010, during which UCF made four appearances in the NCAA tournament. Early life and education Kirk Crittendon Speraw was born and raised in Sioux City, Iowa. Before Kirk went to high school, his father Eugene "Bud" Speraw was an assistant basketball coach at Sioux City Central High School. Kirk followed his father to Sioux City Central games and helped keep statistics. Kirk later attended Sioux City North High School and lettered in basketball and four other sports, playing at guard on the basketball team. Belmont University is a Private university, private Christian university in Nashville, Tennessee, United States. The 2005 NCAA Division I men's basketball tournament involved 65 schools playing in single-elimination play to determine the national champion of men's NCAA Division I college basketball.
