2004–05 AJ Auxerre Season
The 2004–05 season was the 99th season in the existence of AJ Auxerre and the club's 25th consecutive season in the top-flight of French football. In addition to the domestic league, Auxerre participated in this season's editions of the 2004–05 Coupe de France, Coupe de France, the 2004–05 Coupe de la Ligue, Coupe de la Ligue and 2004–05 UEFA Cup, UEFA Cup. Season summary Auxerre fell to 8th in the final table, but won the Coupe de France. Manager Guy Roux retired at the end of the season, after 44 years managing the club. AJ Auxerre
Association de la Jeunesse Auxerroise (), commonly known as AJ Auxerre or by the abbreviation AJA, is a French professional association football, football club based in the Communes of France, commune of Auxerre in Burgundy. The club plays in Ligue 1, the top division of Football in France, French football, since the 2024–25 season after securing promotion from Ligue 2 as winners of the 2023–24 season. Jacques Santini
Jacques Jean Claude Santini (born 25 April 1952) is a French former professional footballer and manager. He played for Saint-Étienne during the 1970s, and reached the European Cup final with them in 1976. He has coached the France national team - winning the 2003 FIFA Confederations Cup and reaching the quarter-finals of Euro 2004 - and clubs including Lyon. Managerial career Santini is one of the most accomplished football managers in France. Together with Jean Michel Aulas and Bernard Lacombe he was involved in the transformation of Lyon into a French football giant. Sébastien Hamel
Sébastien Hamel (born 20 November 1975) is a French former professional footballer who played as a goalkeeper. Career Monaco Born in Arpajon, Essonne, Hamel started his career at AS Monaco as a trainee in 1991 before turning professional in 1993. He failed to make an appearance in his one professional season with Monaco and joined fellow Ligue 1 side, Le Havre, in the summer of 1994. Le Havre Hamel again failed to become a regular for his new club, going three seasons without a league appearance until he made his debut in the 1997–98 season. David Vandenbossche
David Vandenbossche (born 27 September 1980 in Dunkerque) is a French footballer, who is currently playing for Auxerre B. Career Vandenbossche began his career as part of the youth academy at French club AJ Auxerre. He left the club in 2004, to join Ligue 2 side LB Châteauroux on loan for six months, before moving back to Auxerre, later that year, he joined Châteauroux permanently. In 2008, he joined French second tier club US Boulogne and on 31 July 2009 US Boulogne have released striker. Jean-Pascal Mignot (born 26 February 1981) is a French former professional footballer who played as defender. He made the international sporting headlines on 21 October 2010 when he was the first player in the history of the UEFA Champions League to be sent-off without ever actually taking to the field. The incident occurred during a group stage match against AFC Ajax at the Amsterdam Arena. Mignot was warming up on the touchline during the closing moments of the game, and strongly remonstrated against a decision made by the referee, Olegario Benquerenca. Kanga Gauthier Akalé (born 7 March 1981) is an Ivorian former professional footballer who played as a midfielder. Club career Whilst at Auxerre he helped them win the Coupe de France in both 2003 and 2005, playing in both finals. In June 2007, Akalé signed a four-year contract with RC Lens for an undisclosed transfer fee, and he was loaned to Marseille in January 2008, then Recreativo de Huelva. Teemu Mikael Tainio (born 27 November 1979) is a Finnish association football, football coach and former player. Tainio began his career with his local club, TP-47, before moving to FC Haka in 1996. Luigi Pieroni
Luigi Pieroni (born 8 September 1980) is a Belgian football manager and former player who is assistant manager of Raja CA. A forward, he played in Belgium and France. At international level, he represented the Belgium national team. Playing career Pieroni was born in Liège, Belgium. Yann Lachuer
Yann Lachuer (born 5 August 1972) is a French football coach and former professional player who coaches SO Romorantin. Playing career Lachuer began his career in the 1992–93 season with US Créteil-Lusitanos in Ligue 2 the second tier of French Football, making 31 appearances and scoring five goals. His displays brought him to the attention of AJ Auxerre, for whom he signed in 1993. Benoît Benjamin Cheyrou (born 3 May 1981) is a French former professional footballer who played as a central midfielder, and often acted as a deep-lying playmaker for the attack. Stéphane Grichting
Stéphane Grichting (born 30 March 1979) is a Swiss former professional footballer who played as a defender. His career began at FC Sion. Grichting then played at AJ Auxerre in France for ten seasons, before moving back to Switzerland to play for Grasshoppers. He earned 36 caps for the Swiss national team, and was called up to the 2006 FIFA World Cup and 2010 FIFA World Cup squads.
