2004 Mountain West Conference Men's Basketball Tournament
The 2004 Mountain West Conference men's basketball tournament was played at Pepsi Center in Denver, Colorado from March 10–13, 2004. Third-seeded Utah defeated UNLV, which lost its third consecutive tournament title game (all by 3 points or less), 73–70 in the championship game to win the Mountain West Conference tournament and the league's NCAA Tournament automatic bid. This marked the first time in league history the tournament was held in a venue other than Las Vegas' Thomas and Mack Center. Pepsi Center
Ball Arena (formerly known as Pepsi Center) is a multi-purpose indoor arena located in Denver, Colorado. It is situated at Speer Boulevard, a main thoroughfare in downtown Denver, and is served by two nearby exits off Interstate 25. A light rail station is on the western side of the complex. Air Force Falcons
The Air Force Falcons are the intercollegiate athletic teams that represent the United States Air Force Academy, located in Colorado Springs, Colorado. The athletics department has 17 men's and 10 women's NCAA-sanctioned teams. The current athletic director is Nathan Pine. The majority of Falcon teams compete as members of the Mountain West Conference. Team name origin The falcon mascot was selected by popular vote of the Academy's Class of 1959, the first class to graduate from the Academy. Mountain West Conference Men's Basketball Tournament
The Mountain West Conference men's basketball tournament is held annually to determine the men's basketball champion from the Mountain West Conference. The winner receives an automatic bid to the NCAA Division I Basketball tournament, although they did not in the 1999–2000 season, the conference's first year in existence. The Thomas & Mack Center in Paradise, Nevada has hosted the most tournaments (15), including the last 11 consecutive tournaments. San Diego State have won the tournament six times, the most of any team. The No. 2 seed has won the tournament eight times, the most of any seed. New Mexico Lobos Men's Basketball
The New Mexico Lobos men's basketball team represents the University of New Mexico, competing in the Mountain West Conference (MWC) in NCAA Division I. The university established college basketball, basketball as a Varsity team, varsity sport in 1899 and began competing with regional colleges after establishing an athletics department in 1920. Lobo basketball first achieved national prominence after Bob King (basketball), Bob King was hired as head coach in 1962. King transformed a moribund program into a consistent winner and produced future American Basketball Association, ABA MVP Mel Daniels. The Lobos won the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) championship in 1964 and 1968, making frequent appearances in national rankings. The Colorado State Rams are the athletic teams that represent Colorado State University (CSU). Colorado State's athletic teams compete along with 8 other institutions in the Mountain West Conference, which is an NCAA Division I conference and sponsors Division I FBS football. The BYU Cougars men's basketball team represents Brigham Young University in NCAA Division I basketball play.
